The casual Corrections Education Associate is an important part of the Corrections Education team, providing program continuity in our ABE/GED and Work-Based Education programs at Coffee Creek Correctional (Wilsonville), Columbia River Correctional (near the Portland airport), and South Fork Forest Camp (Hwy 6 on the way to Tillamook). Education and/or corrections experience is preferred, but training is provided.The Corrections Education Associate provides front-line services to current incarcerated students by covering full-time staff who are on vacation or other forms of leave or supplementing staffing needs. The position will be asked to cover multiple programs such as Computer Lab and Tutoring, the Eyeglass Program, and the Cosmetology Program. The duties of the job will vary based on the area of programming where coverage is needed and to which the employee has been assigned. Content expertise in these program areas is not required since instruction is not part of this role. Coverage assignments will be matched based on candidate strengths and institutional needs.

What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For
Typical Duties and Responsibilities would vary depending on the area covered, but may involve any of the following tasks.
1. Student Support, Lab Supervision, & Classroom Operations
- Supervise & Assist: Provide hands-on assistance to students in instructional settings (computer labs, shop areas, classrooms), guiding use of hardware, software (e.g., Aztec, MS Office, Rosetta Stone), and instructional tools.
- Attendance & Call-Outs: Maintain attendance records, schedule classroom call-outs in DOC systems (DOC 400), track student progress, and report outcomes to instructors/coordinators.
- Conflict Resolution: Respond to or report behavioral or disciplinary issues and classroom concerns.
2. Adults in Custody (AIC) Worker & Tutor Oversight
- Recruitment & Training: Help recruit, interview, onboard, and manage AIC tutors, and program clerks.
- Scheduling & Supervision: Oversee daily schedules and direct the work of AIC workers across educational and vocational programs.
- Team Communication: Facilitate meetings with AIC workers and staff to coordinate daily workflow and program goals.
3. Administrative Support & Systems
- System Operations: Interface with college and institutional databases (e.g., Banner, Workday, DOC systems) to input data.
- Department Support: Coordinate meetings, record/distribute minutes, compile policy documentation, and maintain departmental files.
4. Procurement & Facility Management
- Facility & Computer Maintenance: Coordinate classroom/lab room assignments, report and monitor facility or hardware/software maintenance issues, and ensure adequate instructional supplies are stocked.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed in the corrections classroom setting, where staff and AIC safety and security is the highest priority. Deadlines and interruptions of workflow are expected and occur on a regular basis.
Qualifications
High school education or equivalent. One year of post-secondary coursework in a relevant field and one year of experience working in an administrative or other similar environment is preferred but not required. Experience performing the duties of the job may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Ability to work effectively in a correctional facility with daily contact with adults in custody (AICs).
· Ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse staff, student, and AIC population.
· Student assessment and performance evaluation.
· Clear communication of technical information to diverse learners.
· Willingness to learn institutional/college procedures, policies, and operational requirements.
· Planning, workflow facilitation, and independent decision-making.
· Prioritizing and managing multiple competing projects in a fast-paced environment with regular interruptions.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Operation of standard office equipment, computer software, and administrative platforms.
· Ability to pass a Department of Corrections (DOC) background check and obtain DOC contractor status.

The ASR contains current security and safety-related policy disclosure statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information and resources, and drug and alcohol prevention programming.
