Position Summary 

The Associate Service Technician is an entry-level field technical role supporting the service, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of mtu engines, propulsion systems, and electronic controls at customer sites across North America and internationally. Working alongside senior technicians and service engineers, this role provides hands-on technical support, from pre-job planning and parts preparation through commissioning, customer training, and detailed post-job reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled early-career technician to build deep expertise in marine propulsion and power systems while developing customer-facing skills in a high-travel, high-impact field environment. The main area of responsibility for the Associate Service Technician would be customer sites located in Alabama and Mississippi/the Gulf Coast region of the United States.  

What you will be doing 

• Assist in the service, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of mtu engines, propulsion systems, and electronic controls, analyze technical data, inspect parts for conformance to specification, instrument propulsion systems, and support engine commissioning and acceptance testing in the field. 

• Travel domestically and internationally 70–100% of the time, often on short notice, this is a field-based role with the majority of time spent at customer sites across North America and beyond. The main area of responsibility at this time is Alabama and Mississippi/Gulf Coast within the United States due to the location of customer sites.  

• Plan and prepare for every assignment, assess and scope work to ensure deadlines are met, request all necessary parts and tools in advance, and maintain accurate mtu engine, vessel, and equipment logs throughout each job. 

• Create thorough technical documentation, write detailed job completion reports and service letters, record daily activities and test data, and contribute input to updates of service manuals and bulletins in collaboration with product groups. 

• Support customers and colleagues, demonstrate safe operation, maintenance, and shutdown procedures to customers, provide technical assistance to other service personnel, and represent Rolls-Royce Power Systems professionally in all customer interactions. 

Basic Requirements: 

• Two-year mechanical trade school diploma or Associate's degree in Engineering, or a related field, OR 

• Two or more years of hands-on field service, mechanical, or electrical troubleshooting on diesel engines experience in lieu of a degree 

• In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. 

Preferred Requirements: 

• Strong knowledge of internal combustion engine operation, including engine troubleshooting, instrumentation, and electronic engine controls. 

• Demonstrated ability to use mechanical, electrical, measurement, and testing tools, and to operate machine shop equipment used for cleaning, testing, or fabricating parts. 

• Experience working with mtu engines and electronics, or comparable diesel power systems in a marine, industrial, or Oil & Gas service environment. 

• Experience operating forklifts and rigging loads up to 1 ton in a field or shop environment, a practical advantage for field assignments involving heavy equipment handling. 

Mental & Physical Requirements:  

• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull weights in the 20–60 lb range. 

• Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces as required by field service tasks.
