The Delivery Management (DM) horizontal plays a critical role in strengthening project, program, and product management capabilities. It ensures seamless end-to-end delivery, aligns with business-focused delivery verticals, and provides flexibility in delivery capacity. DM offers team members a strong connection to specific business domains, fostering both domain expertise and delivery excellence. This is achieved through consistent application of refined Project Delivery Framework (PDF) standards and collaborative ways of working with Delivery Verticals.
Additionally, the DM capability supports delivery assurance, tools, standards, processes, and frameworks, as well as Project Management Office (PMO) functions—offering a comprehensive environment for professional growth and impactful delivery.
Job Description:
An Associate Project Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing individual projects or a group of related initiatives to fulfil defined business objectives and deliver measurable value. This role involves coordinating and leveraging the necessary resources and expertise to ensure successful delivery within established constraints of budget, schedule, and quality. The Associate Project Manager typically leads small to medium-sized projects that are of low to moderate complexity and risk, and is accountable for the following key responsibilities:
• Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle from planning to closure.
• Lead cross-functional teams, including internal staff and external vendors.
• Manage scope and changes to ensure delivery within time, cost, and quality targets.
• Develop and track financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with budgets.
• Execute stakeholder communication and change management plans.
• Monitor project performance, identify risks early, and escalate as needed.
• Apply Shell’s project management standards, including IT controls and risk management.
Special Challenges:
• Build trust with stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and communicate difficult messages with solutions.
• Prioritize work for maximum value using the VADA framework and clearly articulate benefits.
• Manage and communicate delivery risks, keeping them within acceptable limits.
• Ensure decisions follow governance protocols and are properly documented.
• Align stakeholders across all phases of delivery for consistent support.
• Conduct assurance reviews per the Delivery Assurance Review framework.
• Make timely decisions even with limited information.
• Empower and motivate teams by removing obstacles to progress.
• Collaborate effectively in a global, virtual, and outsourced environment.
• Tailor communications to suit different stakeholder audiences.
Skills & Requirements:
• 4-year bachelor’s degree in IT or related field.
• 2+ years of IT experience with project leadership responsibilities.
• Experience with Waterfall & Agile methodologies;
• strong understanding of Agile framework
• Proven ability to lead Agile projects and guide stakeholders through Agile practices.
• Familiar with project management tools and methodologies.
• Demonstrates leadership behaviours, promoting empowerment & transparency.
• PMP or equivalent certification preferred; Agile certifications/training also desirable.
• Experience in implementing Services and associated controls required.
• Experience in Finance management and reporting required.
• Experience in Managing projects involving business and technical change required.
• Experience working in larger programs preferred.
• Experience in SAFE preferred.
• Experience as Test Manager preferred.
• Experience as scrum master preferred.
