Your Role

Radio-Canada Saskatchewan is looking for an energetic and forward-thinking Associate Producer to take on a vital support role. You will be assigned primarily to on-air presentation for the radio morning show Point du jour, produced at the Regina Broadcast Centre. The shift is Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

You will also be assigned to gather, write and present program material for all our media platforms. You will participate in the production, direction and/or post-production of a program and/or program segment. Guidance and direction are regularly available from one or more producers, but there is latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Work must comply with CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and program policies, standards and practices. Work can involve co-ordination of the activities of others, and close co-operation with the program unit is essential.

Key Tasks:

• Operate the studio board during live programming and pre-taped segments, direct/time the program, and provide control room support for on-air staff.
• Contribute ideas for program content; help determine program objectives.
• Secure studios, lines, uplinks, remotes and other technical and production resources required for the program.
• Assist in developing program content (includes writing, researching and/or editing). Prepare scripts, ensuring adherence to the style and format of the program.
• Organize appearances of interviewees, creative contributors and other guests on the program; develop background, intros and lines of questioning; conduct or arrange for any necessary research; and ensure briefing of hosts. Maintain contact files.
• Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
• Perform the following tasks as required:
  • Select music, sound effects and/or actuality.
  • Produce program elements.
  • Direct a program, either live or pre-packaged, in studio or at a remote location.
  • Assign, direct and co-ordinate the work of other personnel working on a project for which the Producer is responsible.
  • Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of, audio and/or visual elements.
  • Write continuity, edit text, and edit and prepare voicemail for broadcast or publication.
  • Log programs and music in appropriate information systems.
  • Assemble, code, digitize, and index sound and digital images for a website and social platforms using appropriate technologies.
  • Assist in maintaining manageable, appropriate audience engagement and communication aligned with the style and nature of the program.
  • Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom, program unit or station.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

What You Bring:

• University degree or equivalent.
• Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three (3) years’ practical, relevant experience, or a college diploma and five (5) years’ practical, relevant experience.
• Bilingual (English/French).
• Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, tight-deadline environment.
• Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
• Resourceful, proactive mindset.
• Proficiency with digital and broadcast IT tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong team-player orientation. 
• Comfort with the demands and needs of television, radio and digital news production.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently.
• Ability to solve problems independently and in team settings (with an openness to new ideas and approaches).
• Ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
• Understanding of the structure and workflow at Radio-Canada, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal counterparts.
• Strong knowledge of Saskatchewan and the issues facing the Fransaskois community.

Nice-to-Haves:

Familiarity with in-house production tools (Dalet, iNews, Avid).
