Associate or Experienced Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer

The Boeing Defense Air Dominance Division Systems Safety & Mission Assurance organization is looking for an Aircraft Safety Engineer to join our US Navy Unmanned MQ-25 Stingray program in Berkeley, MO.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate (Level 2) or Experienced (Level 3) Aircraft Safety Engineers.

As an aircraft safety engineer, you will be responsible for working closely with other engineering disciplines to assess aircraft hardware/software/firmware design to identify all potential safety hazards and propose solutions to reduce or eliminate hazards to ensure product safety and customer mission success. Work scope includes safety hazard analysis/mitigation with issues identified during manufacturing and flight testing of our aircraft.

We are looking for individuals with a strong background in aircraft systems or Avionic / Software. Enthusiastic and highly collaborative engineers with a passion for technical details in both hardware and software. Experience in MIL-STD 882, JSSSEH, DO-178/DO-254 standards is highly desirable.

Ideal candidates are someone with aircraft design including hardware and software experience, and strong critical thinking skills. Someone that works well in a team environment, ability to apply Seek, Speak and Listen approach to effectively connect and build relationship with teammates and customers.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Participates in research and analysis to identify potential or reported manufacturing issues (e.g. non-conformances, quality escape, FOD etc..) and, risks, and safety
    concerns
  • Participates in system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns
  • Supports identifying safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices
  • Supports defining and validating safety, mission success, and airworthiness; provides support incorporating into designs, operations, and procedures
  • Participates in tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements
  • Assists with creating and maintaining aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes
  • Contributes by documenting safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards
  • Supports creating and maintaining safety and corrective action plans

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 2: 2+ years of experience working in an engineering, engineering technology, or related technical discipline

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Level 3: 5+ + years of experience working in an engineering, engineering technology, or related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience working with safety analyses such as Risk Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), etc.
  • 3+ years of experience with the design and technical development of hardware, firmware or software for Military, Space, or Commercial airplane systems
  • 3+ years of experience in software verification & validation and safety analysis
  • 3+ years' experience general working level knowledge of tactical aircraft hydro-mechanical subsystems, and components, including at least one of the following areas of focus: flight controls, landing gear, ejection seats, fuel, hydraulics, power plant (engines & APU's), environmental controls

Summary Pay Range:

  • Associate (Level 2): $88,400 - $119,600
  • Experienced (Level 3): $107,100 - $144,900

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
