The Associate Director works closely with rehabilitation managers, providers, nursing leadership, care coordination, revenue cycle, quality, and hospital leadership to align rehabilitation services with VCUMC operational priorities. This position provides leadership that supports standardization, performance optimization, workforce strategy, and program development across services at VCUMC.
Essential Job Statements
Provides leadership and oversight for rehabilitation services at VCUMC, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services. Ensure rehabilitation care delivery aligns with evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary care models, and patient safety standards.
Supports and oversee day-to-day operational performance of rehab services at VCUMC including staffing models, utilization and productivity, and service coverage.
Ensures rehabilitation services comply with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards relevant to hospital-based rehabilitation care. Lead or support quality improvement efforts focused on functional outcomes, documentation standards, patient experience, and safety events within rehab services.
Supports budgeting and fiscal oversight for rehabilitation services in partnership with department and hospital leadership. Monitor expense management, staffing impact, and productivity trends to ensure fiscally responsible service delivery. Participated in evaluation and prioritization of equipment, space, and resource needs.
Provides direct leadership and support to Rehab Services Managers and indirect leadership to front line rehabilitation staff. Promote staff engagement, accountability, professional growth, and succession planning within rehab services. Foster a collaborative team culture that supports high performance and continuous improvement.
Participates in planning and implementation of strategic initiatives impacting rehabilitation services. Support standardization and optimization of rehab practices maintaining regulatory, financial, and operational standards of practice.
Represents rehab services in hospital-based committees, workgroups, and initiatives at VCUMC. Serve as a liaison between rehabilitation services and key stakeholders including nursing, providers, ancillary services, and hospital administration.
Patient Population: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Neonates (0-4 weeks), Infant (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older)
Employment Qualifications
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology.
Education Preferred: M aster’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field.
Licensing/ Certification
Licensure Required: Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech-Language Pathologist.
Licensure Preferred: Adv anced leadership or rehabilitation administration certification.
Certification Required: NA
Certification Preferred: Certifications/registrations in functional area(s)
Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in rehabilitation services with demonstrated experience with medically complex patients. Minimum of five (5) years hospital-based healthcare management/supervisory experience
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Experience with operational leadership, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Compensation Range
$110,572.80 - $171,392.00Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
