The Opportunity

The College of Medicine (COM) invites applications for the position of associate professor or professor of medicine and Associate Dean for Students. This senior educational leadership role reports to the senior associate dean for undergraduate medical education (SADME) and is responsible for promoting a supportive, student‑centered learning environment that strengthens engagement, professional development, well‑being, and academic success for students in the M.D. program.

The Associate Dean provides strategic leadership for programs and services supporting medical students across both the pre‑clinical and clinical phases of the curriculum. This includes initiatives focused on academic success, career development and advising, student activities and organizations, student well-being, and student financial services.

The Associate Dean for Students serves as a key architect of the medical student experience within the College of Medicine, shaping a culture that supports learners academically, professionally, and personally. This leader plays a central role in cultivating an environment where medical students feel valued, empowered, and equipped to thrive throughout their medical education journey. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, academic support, student success, medical education, or related higher education roles, along with an understanding of the unique challenges facing medical students, outstanding communication and organizational skills, and strong management skills.

UCF COM has 120 medical students per class, serves more than 3000 undergraduate and graduate students, and partners with HCA Healthcare to sponsor residency and fellowship programs. As a key member of the college’s educational leadership team, the Associate Dean will contribute to advancing the educational mission of the college with excellence, collaboration, and integrity. The position collaborates extensively with college leadership, including the Associate Dean for Medical Education and Department Chairs, to advance the college’s missions in an integrated manner.

This is a non-tenure earning or tenure-earning position and is expected to be a partial FTE administrative appointment (0.80 FTE), with the remaining effort allocated to teaching, clinical practice, scholarship, or other academic responsibilities consistent with the selected candidate’s background and departmental needs. Tenure track candidates are welcome to apply but must be eligible for tenure upon hire.

  • Leading the Medical Student Performance Evaluation process for fourth-year medical students to ensure production of reliable, accurate, and consistent MSPEs across the Associate and Assistant Deans for Students in alignment with AAMC guidelines.

  • Managing the development, revision, and implementation of policies related to medical students and student affairs in accordance with institutional standards and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

  • Meeting with students facing academic, professional, and conduct related concerns, and advising students with respect to their rights and responsibilities in the promotions and conduct processes.

  • Ensuring compliance with LCME accreditation standards related to student affairs and the learning environment and contributing to continuous quality improvement efforts to enhance the student experience.

  • Advancing initiatives that support medical student success, wellness, and readiness for residency.

  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and institutional partners to ensure an integrated and holistic approach to medical student support.
