Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Psychological Science (PSYC) in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Psychology to start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive startup package. Successful applicants must have: (1) a Ph.D. in psychology from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment, (2) an active program of research in social psychology (3) evidence of scholarly productivity as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, (4) an ability to contribute to the department’s teaching mission in both graduate training and undergraduate instruction in psychological science, including seminar courses in the person’s area(s) of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with (1) demonstrated potential to obtain extramural funding, (2) an ability to complement existing departmental strengths, and (3) evidence of preparation for teaching courses needed by the department.
This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
About the Department:
The Department of Psychological Science houses a large undergraduate program (over 1,500 students), as well as two Ph.D. programs in Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychology. The department has over 30 full-time faculty with a wide range of expertise in psychological science, four full-time administrative staff, 50 doctoral students (PhD), and several postdoctoral fellows. The PSYC department is housed within Memorial Hall at the University of Arkansas. Memorial Hall contains four floors of faculty offices, laboratory space, classrooms, and a Psychological Clinic that serves as the primary training site for the Department's fully accredited Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Program. The Department is also home to a major private endowment that generates over $300K/year to support its research mission. This endowment funds graduate research assistants, faculty research, summer pay for grant preparation, and other research-related expenses. The Department of Psychological Science has affiliations with the Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R), which houses a Siemens Magnetom Cima.X 3T MRI scanner that can be used for brain imaging.
