This is a tenure-track, nine-month Assistant Professor of Computer Science position. A reduced teaching load supports research development. Primary duties will include establishing an independent, externally funded research program focused on mobile device forensics; leading the development of the School’s Cyber Forensics Laboratory; contributing to the BS in Computer Science with primary responsibility for teaching Mobile Device Forensics and related cyber forensics coursework; and mentoring student research and senior design projects. Duties also include teaching other Computer Science courses as needed, including introductory Cyber Forensics; supporting recruitment, accreditation, and School service; and collaborating with academic, industry, and government partners. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems, Computer, and Petroleum Engineering. Its BS in Computer Science and MS in Systems Engineering launched in Fall 2026. This position is part of a strategic faculty expansion in the School of Engineering to hire 10 permanent faculty members, eight tenure-track and two instructional, beginning Fall 2027.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date. Applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in mobile device forensics through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof, and the ability to teach Mobile Device Forensics, develop associated laboratory activities, mentor student research, and establish an independent research program in this area. Candidates must demonstrate strength in one or more areas of mobile device forensics: iOS or Android forensics; forensic acquisition and data recovery; mobile application analysis; mobile malware analysis; mobile memory forensics; or digital evidence analysis involving mobile devices. Mobile device forensics research, cyber forensics laboratory development, and experience pursuing external research funding are especially desirable. Experience collaborating with industry and government partners, or the ability to develop such partnerships, is also desirable.
