Texas A&M-Victoria seeks one full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of U.S. History with a start date of August 2027.

Qualifications: The Department of Social Science at Texas A&M-Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position in U.S. History. A doctoral degree in U.S. History, or in a closely related field, by the start date is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and will contribute to a vibrant department that supports multiple majors, including History, Psychology, Political Science, and Criminal Justice. The area of research specialization in U.S. History is open, but applications that demonstrate a willingness to teach and/or research the methods of Applied History are preferred. Teaching responsibilities include both introductory surveys in U.S. history from 1492 to the present, as well as in-person and online upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, which may include offering courses that align with the program’s new focus in Applied History. Evidence of an active research agenda and the ability to publish in the field of expertise are expected.

Responsibilities: The applicant will teach twelve credit hours per semester of both introductory and upper-level US history courses, depending on the expertise of the applicant and departmental needs. The successful applicant to this position is expected to direct student learning opportunities that might include undergraduate research, or other applied student experiences, and to contribute to the distinctive general education curriculum and the broader academic life on campus. Other expectations include research and scholarly activity, career advising, fostering connections with community organizations, maintaining a strong campus presence, and supporting student recruitment and retention efforts.

Setting: Texas A&M University-Victoria is the most recent addition to the Texas A&M University System. The University was founded in 1973 as part of the University of Houston System and was transferred to the Texas A&M University System during the 89th Texas Legislative Session. A&M-Victoria is the only four-year university in a 100-mile radius and is just 30 miles from the Texas Gulf Coast. The University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. It serves the educational needs, promotes economic well-being, and advances the community and region's quality of life through teaching, research, and service excellence. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and it offers more than 50 academic programs, as well as concentrations and certificates. The university also has several accreditations for specific areas and programs, including from the AACSB, ABET, CACREP and CCNE. In addition to its recent transition into The Texas A&M University System, A&M-Victoria is in the process of adding academic programs in three major areas: aviation, agribusiness, and engineering. In addition to academic excellence, A&M-Victoria has a thriving Athletics program that offers six competitive teams: baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s golf. The Jaguars are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the baseball, softball and soccer teams compete in the Red River Athletic Conference.
