This newly created role requires an experienced accounting leader who can manage multiple priorities, coordinate complex audits with a Big 4 firm, develop strong working relationships across the organization, and continuously improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger close process, including the close calendar, account ownership, review procedures, issue resolution, and timely completion of deliverables.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, consolidations, accruals, and other close activities to ensure completeness, accuracy, appropriate support, and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage the external audit process in partnership with the Controller, including planning, coordination of requests, preparation of supporting schedules, tracking of open items, and timely resolution of audit matters.
  • Serve as a day-to-day accounting contact for the company’s Big 4 auditor and coordinate multiple entity, project, statutory, or other audits as applicable.
  • In partnership with the Controller, Director of Accounting, and Sr. Manager of Financial reporting, review consolidated and entity-level financial statements and related disclosures for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting requirements.
  • Partner with technical accounting, tax, treasury, FP&A, legal, development, operations, and other teams to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and reporting requirements are met.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, close checklists, reconciliations, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and implement scalable improvements that shorten the close, strengthen controls, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting quality.
  • Support internal control activities and remediation efforts, including review of key controls and coordination of evidence needed for internal and external audit procedures.
  • Assist the Controller with special projects, transactions, and other accounting or reporting matters as the business grows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Approximately 8 or more years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong foundation in public accounting and external audit.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience leading a monthly and quarterly general ledger close process in a complex, multi-entity environment.
  • Direct experience coordinating multiple audits with a Big 4 accounting firm, including managing request lists, schedules, issue resolution, and deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, general ledger accounting, consolidations, and account reconciliation standards.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing recurring financial reporting for executive leadership, boards, lenders, or private equity ownership.
  • Industry accounting experience strongly desired; renewable energy, infrastructure, power, or another asset-intensive industry is a plus but not required.
  • Strong leadership, project management, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Oracle Fusion Cloud and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is preferred.

Organizational Fit

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of colleagues across different lines of reporting.
  • Strong communication, project management, and team-building skills, including experience working with cross-functional internal teams and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities with clear target setting and follow-through capability in a fast-paced work environment.
