The Assistant Athletics Director, Fitness Center & Sports Performance position reports to the Associate Athletics Director, Fitness Center & Sports Performance and will assist with maximizing student-athletes' athletic performance while reducing the risk of injury. In addition, this position will implement scientifically-proven principles of strength and conditioning, while creating a positive, energetic, and encouraging training environment that is conducive to the overall development of student-athletes. This is an important role that requires extensive student and coach interaction, and the ability to confidently interact and engage with a diverse population.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Design and implement scientifically-proven, yearly periodized strength and conditioning programs tailored for Division III student-athletes, emphasizing ground-based, multi-joint, and multi-directional movement patterns.
• Manage and schedule varsity team usage of the fitness center.
• Provide operational supervision and coverage for general student population usage of the fitness center.
• Evaluate, research, and recommend new or replacement equipment to meet evolving student-athlete performance and fitness center goals.
• Serve as the Staff Advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
• Provide site administration and event management coverage for home athletic contests.
• Maintain strict compliance with all NCAA Division III, NEWMAC, and College rules, regulations, and ethical standards.
• All Student Affairs staff are expected to actively participate in and support major divisional and institutional programs and events, including but not limited to student and staff training, Move-in and Move-out, Orientation, Family & Friends Weekend, Picture Yourself at Emerson, Commencement, the Student Organizations Fair, and other key community-building initiatives.
• Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

• Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Physical Education or related field required.
• 3-5 years of experience in designing and implementing sports performance programs with athletic populations including college, high school or elite youth, required.
• Collegiate strength and conditioning experience preferred.
• Certification in CPR, AED and First Aid required.
• CSCS (NSCA)and/or CSCCA certification required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job. 

• Proficiency in demonstrating and instructing basic and advanced weightlifting, movement, and functional training techniques.
• In depth knowledge of exercise science, injury prevention, and periodized program design for varied athletic disciplines.
• Strong organizational and computer skills, with proficiency in athletic management software and standard office technology.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, prioritize workloads, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated team player with excellent interpersonal, conflict-resolution, and oral/written communication skills.

• Exceptional attention to detail required

PHYSICAL ABILITIES – Activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. • Position requires continuous physical movement, standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and climbing.
• Ability to continuously communicate orally and in writing with student-athletes, medical staff, coaches, co-workers, and administrators; visual acuity to read computer screens, fine print, and detect color-coded data.
• Ability to regularly demonstrate exercises and handle equipment, including lifting and moving weights exceeding 100 lbs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

• Dynamic work atmosphere split between an office setting and a high-energy fitness center environment
• Regular exposure to loud noise levels (weights dropping, music, and crowd noise)
• Occasional exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures and inclement weather during event coverage or field workouts.
• Potential occasional exposure to bodily fluids, moving mechanical equipment, and operational vibration.

Compensation: $58,850.00 - $72,150.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
