Advanced Automation Operator

Job Description Summary

The Advanced Automation Operator at American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting highly automated manufacturing systems and robotic cells to ensure efficient production and adherence to quality standards. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial automation, safety protocols, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities  - Can perform all Assembly Operator responsibilities, plus:

Perform to meet Plant, Department and Assembly Line targets -Practice to produce 100% quality parts

Perform autonomous maintenance tasks within automated assembly line cells

Perform all changeover activities within automated assembly line cells

Perform error proofing at automated assembly line cells

Perform GR&R’s on automated assembly cells

Perform mastering processes within automated assembly line cells

Actively communicate with other operations team members about station and line status

Effectively communicate error messages from an HMI or Robot controller to Manufacturing Engineering or Maintenance

Effectively recover assembly line automation technologies after a line or station stop event (including six axis robots)

Comfortably use a six-axis robotic pendant for basic recovery (training will be provided for this task)

Being attentive to make sure all equipment is in safe working recovery positions prior to recovery and restarting a process

Ability to practice product audits (including performing Drag Torque checks, Pinion Position checks, Back Lash checks and Gear Pattern verifications)

Understanding and using line performance tools such as the jumbo screen to determine faults, errors, and proper corrective actions to improve operational efficiencies

Maintain a clean and safe working environment by practicing all LOTO and other EHS related safe practices for highly automated equipment

Required Skills and Education

• Intermediate knowledge of how to use problem solving tools to achieve desired outcomes
• Strong interpersonal and organization skills
• Intermediate Computer skills/knowledge and basic automotive terminology
• Intermediate knowledge of HMI – station controls panels
• Basic knowledge of how to work in databases & basic knowledge of six axis robotics
• Ability to perform offsets – Backlash, pinion positioning and drag torque patterns
• Physical and Good motor skills, hand dexterity, ability to stand for long periods, walk, stoop, kneel and move/push +40 lbs. and good or corrected vision and hearing

 

Requirements

HS Diploma or equivalent

Must have good attendance and no written disciplinary notices.
