This is an extended posting for temporary Administrative Associate I positions within the Ferry Division. Multiple Administrative Associate I positions will be filled from this posting. We will be filling positions for the following locations: Hatteras, Ocracoke Island (south dock), Currituck, Knotts Island, Bayview, Aurora, Minnesott Beach and Cherry Branch. If there currently is no vacancy at one of these locations, your application will be considered if a vacancy becomes available.

These are temporary positions and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with these positions. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). The Ferry Division is seeking temporary Administrative Associate I employees to serve as front-line customer service and toll collection staff at ferry terminals. Employees will sell ferry tickets, collect and process toll payments, handle cash, credit, and electronic transactions, maintain accurate transaction records, and provide information and assistance to the traveling public. This position requires strong attention to details and professional public interaction skills. This role ensures accurate recordkeeping and delivers timely, courteous assistance to the traveling public, helping maintain a well-organized and welcoming terminal environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Process, review, and verify ferry toll transactions
• Identify and resolve toll related discrepancies
• Maintain statistical, financial, and operational records
• Provide courteous customer service and assist with inquiries
• Operate office equipment and use manual/automated systems to record, retrieve, and update information

Work Schedule: Positions may work a 7-days-on/7-days-off schedule with varying hours. Employees must be available to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, and/or other operationally required hours.

Hiring Salary Range: $15 - $17/hour

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC01 – Hiring Range: $15 – $17/hour

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Skill in working with people with courtesy and tact, utilizing customer service skills.

  • General knowledge of office accounting and record keeping procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment including cash handling, customer payments, and point-of-sale system operation.

  • Demonstrated ability to gather and give information and instructions regarding the work process or procedures.

  • Experience using Windows 7 (or greater), Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet Explorer

Minimum Education and Experience
