Sobre este puesto de 3rd Shift - Manufacturing Engineer - Engine Assembly en GE Aerospace

GE Aerospace · Presencial · Lynn

Job Description Summary

As Engine Assembly Manufacturing Engineer, you will provide on-shift manufacturing engineering support for engine assembly operations during 3rd shift, helping production teams safely build engines to quality, delivery, and cost targets. You will work directly with assemblers, technicians, quality, and support teams to resolve shop-floor issues, maintain process control, troubleshoot technical and hardware-related problems, and ensure work is performed to engineering and process requirements. You will support ongoing production by responding to disruptions, clarifying technical instructions, interpreting drawings and specifications, and making decisions within established procedures to keep assembly flowing.

This role is responsible for monitoring assembly processes, identifying and preventing defects or escapes, supporting root cause investigation and corrective actions, and driving practical process improvements that improve safety, quality, and productivity. The engineer must be able to balance immediate production needs with longer-term process discipline, communicate clearly across functions, and escalate issues that fall outside standard limits. On 3rd shift, this often means serving as a key technical resource for the operation with greater independence and ownership in real-time problem solving.

Job Description

Shift / Schedule Expectations

  • This position supports 3rd shift operations
  • Typical hours are 10:30 pm-7:30 am
  • Regular onsite support is required during assigned shift
  • May require overtime, weekend support, or schedule flexibility based on production needs
  • Requires effective communication with 1st and 2nd shift teams to support shift handoff and issue continuity

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily manufacturing engineering support for engine assembly operations on 3rd shift
  • Support assembly processes by resolving technical issues, process constraints, tooling issues, nonconformances, and build interruptions
  • Work directly with assembly technicians and operators on the shop floor to troubleshoot problems and implement practical solutions
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, process sheets, torque requirements, fits/clearances, and assembly sequencing requirements
  • Develop, revise, and improve manufacturing processes, standard work, tooling, and production documentation
  • Drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Lead or support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and escape prevention related to assembly defects or process variation
  • Partner with quality and operations to ensure compliance with engine assembly requirements, inspection requirements, and controlled process standards
  • Support implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives such as waste reduction, cycle time improvement, process simplification, and error-proofing
  • Evaluate manufacturability and process risks and escalate issues when product or process integrity may be impacted
  • Support new product introduction, process changes, tool changes, and production readiness activities as needed
  • Communicate clearly across shifts and functions to ensure continuity of operations and effective issue resolution
  • Use sound judgment to make timely decisions within established engineering and quality requirements, while escalating higher-risk issues appropriately

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related technical field (OR High school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, mechanical assembly, aircraft maintenance, engine assembly, engine overhaul/repair, aerospace production, or other closely related technical field)

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Blueprint reading and engineering drawing interpretation
    • GD&T
    • Tooling, fixtures, torque tools, precision measurement, and mechanical assembly methods
    • Process control and configuration control
    • Root cause problem solving and corrective action
    • Quality requirements, defect prevention, and escape prevention
    • Standard work and lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience with nonconformance disposition support, inspection findings, rework processes, and deviation management
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation, routers, work instructions, process sheets, and revision-controlled technical data
  • Experience collaborating with shop operations, quality, and design engineering to resolve build issues
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment and make decisions with urgency and discipline
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work respectfully with technicians, mechanics, and cross-functional teams
  • Hands-on, practical mindset with strong shop-floor engagement
  • Able to connect engineering requirements to real-world assembly execution
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and product knowledge
  • Effective at troubleshooting and resolving problems under production pressure
  • Respectful, collaborative, and willing to learn from experienced technicians and operators
  • Clear communicator who shares information across teams and shifts
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on safety, quality, and delivery
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and disciplined decision-making in a regulated aerospace environment
