Who You'll Work With
The successful candidate will join AB’s Japan Institutional Investment Management (“IIM”) team and work closely with the Head of Japan IIM, institutional sales professionals, portfolio managers, investment specialists and colleagues across AB’s global platform.
This role sits at the center of AB’s efforts to grow and deepen relationships with Japanese financial institutions, including insurance companies, banks, securities firms and other institutional investors. The individual will partner closely with investment, operations, legal, compliance, marketing and client service teams to deliver a high-quality client experience and support business growth initiatives.
This position is well suited for ambitious professionals who are looking to broaden their institutional client coverage experience and develop into a senior client-facing leadership role over time.
Position Overview
AB is seeking a Sales / Client Relations Manager to drive business development and relationship management primarily for financial institutions. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of clients and prospective clients and their needs, and should be able to recommend appropriate investment products and/or solutions. The role requires a self-starter and a strong communicator who can work effectively with relevant people and teams, including investment, business development, operations, legal and compliance teams.
Responsibilities
- Drive business development and relationship management primarily for financial institutions, including insurance companies, banks, securities firms and other institutional investors.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and prospective clients, with a deep understanding of their needs and priorities.
- Recommend appropriate investment products and/or solutions by partnering closely with investment, business development and client-facing teams.
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to achieving team goals through a proactive business development mindset.
- Collaborate with relevant internal teams, including investment, business development, operations, legal and compliance, to support client service and business growth.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders in both Japanese and English as appropriate.
- Monitor market trends, client needs and competitor activity to identify strategic opportunities for the business.
Job Qualifications
- Around 5–10 years of experience in investment management and/or sales experience in the financial services industry; institutional sales or relationship management experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of finance and capital markets; MBA, CMA and/or CFA is preferable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
- Strong business development mindset and proactive approach to achieving team goals.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
- Open-mindedness, intellectual curiosity, and partnership/teamwork spirit.
- Business-level English communication skills, both written and verbal.
