Opportunity

A term with the Treasury & Payments team at AIMCo will help to develop your critical thinking skills and build upon your eye for detail. The experience you will gain in this position will help kick-start your career in the finance industry!

The team is responsible for cash forecasting, liquidity management, cash management, banking and payments oversight. You will have the chance to learn from a passionate group of professionals who will guide you through institutional bank account management and assist with callbacks for large scale funding processes in addition to the day-to-day work of the department. You will gain a strong grasp of Treasury functionality within a recognized investment manager. Note: This is a 4-month, full-time term from January 2027 through April 2027

Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting the Treasury team with portfolio cash management, asset class cash forecasting, portfolio closures and various Treasury/Payments projects. 

  • Working with the AIMCo Payments group on bank account setups, market trading establishment, wire initiations and counterparty verifications. 

  • Establishing and maintaining clear processes around internal and external account openings and set-ups. 

  • Support regular review of user banking access. 

  • Co-ordinating with teams to improve processes and recommend efficient new ways to complete tasks, and development of new procedures and policies. 

  • Helping to create and maintain counterparty banking instructions in AIMCo’s primary portfolio management systems. 

  • Organizing and tracking monthly tasks to meet tight deadlines. 

 

Our Ideal Candidate:  

  • Must be enrolled in a co-op or equivalent work experience program 

  • Completion of second or third-year undergraduate studies in Finance, Accounting or a related field 

  • A beginner’s understanding of financial instruments and capital markets (stocks, bonds, derivatives and structured products) 

  • Proficient Excel skills, knowledge of VBA to automate tasks is a desirable asset 

  • Passionate about using AI tools such as Claude to complete a variety of technical tasks 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to identify pertinent information  

  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems using critical thinking skills 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong work ethic 

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others 

 

Success Factors:  

By the end of your student term, you will know success when you are trusted to manage key departmental processes and communicate and follow up on actionable items with AIMCo’s equity traders and portfolio managers.
