Opportunity

Reports to: Managing Director, Client Investment Advisory

The Associate, Client Investment Strategy plays a critical role in advancing AIMCo’s client investment advisory capabilities by translating client objectives into actionable portfolio and strategy insights. This role combines hands on analytical depth with client-facing responsibilities, requiring both technical expertise and strong communication skills to deliver tailored investment strategies and advice. In this role, you will support client advisory engagements, asset mix studies and client portfolio implementation advice. You will also work closely with Client Management, Multi-Asset Portfolio Management, Risk, Economics & Investment Research, and Investment teams to ensure alignment of advice.

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Contribute to the creation of scalable analytics capabilities that enhance client portfolio insights.

  • Prepare materials for client and board‑level investment discussions and provide clear, well‑structured analysis and insights.

  • Contribute to the development of client‑specific investment strategy analysis, including strategic asset allocation and asset‑liability modeling.

  • Work collaboratively within the Client Investment Advisory team to peer review work and explore creative solutions to unique challenges.

  • Support the team’s investment planning capabilities

  • Contribute to the evolution of AIMCo’s client advisory framework by identifying opportunities to enhance modeling, analysis, and communication.

  • Support transition planning activities related to changes in client investment policies, asset mix and portfolio objectives.
     

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 3-5 years of experience in investment strategy, asset allocation, asset‑liability modeling, or investment consulting.

  • Experience working with pension plans, insurance portfolios, endowments, or institutional clients.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, etc.); Master’s degree considered an asset.

  • Progress toward or completion of CFA, ACIA/FCIA, FRM, or similar designation preferred.

  • Strong understanding of institutional portfolios, risk drivers, and portfolio construction.

  • Experience with asset‑liability modeling and strategic asset allocation is an asset.

  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, decision‑ready insights.

  • Strong presentation and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python and R.
     


    Location: Edmonton.
    Work model: hybrid (3 days in office currently).
