Performs complex professional accounting work involving recording, analyzing, reconciling, and monitoring local and state funds and transactions in accordance with federal, state, and university guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Reviews and reconciles complex accounts, including the university’s operating and disbursement account and state appropriations; researches discrepancies and issues; provides accounting and technical guidance to other university departments for the resolution of reconciling items.
• Supervises the university’s banking operation, and serves as campus liaison with TAMUS Banking for banking transactions and reporting.
• Reviews and analyzes bank transaction data; communicates with university departments to ensure bank transactions are properly recorded; and researches and resolves issues.
• Calculates weekly tuition deposits to the State Treasury, calculates Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) transfer amounts, and prepares periodic tuition split comparisons.
• Supervises staff in the preparation of general ledger entries for online store and point of sale revenues, and the sales tax return; coordinates security for point of sale banking application, including user accounts and access privileges.
• Prepares state accounting entries in compliance with accounting policy statements and fiscal policies and procedures; reviews state transaction data; and monitors fund balances.
• Assists the Manager, Financial Reporting with the preparation of fiscal year-end journal entries and reports.
• Gathers and prepares statistical data for management analysis.
• Reports unclaimed property to the State Comptroller annually.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and (3) years related experience or equivalent combination of education and recent related experience

• Broad knowledge of the federal, state accounting regulations and university accounting procedures
• Excellent analytical skills to monitor and reconcile accounts and prepare financial reports and statements
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with the university community, state agencies, and vendors
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to compose own correspondence and reports
• Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate accounting records
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and act upon decisions within scope of delegated authority

Starting salary for this position is $4,040.18 monthly and is negotiable depending on education and experience.

Setting: Texas A&M University-Victoria is the most recent addition to the Texas A&M University System. The University was founded in 1973 as part of the University of Houston System and was transferred to the Texas A&M University System during the 89th Texas Legislative Session.
