About this S&T Product Development Chemist role at PPG
As an S&T Product Development Chemist, you will develop architectural coatings, ensuring compliance with performance, quality, cost, and sustainability requirements. You will provide technical support to manufacturing operations through laboratory testing, formulation analysis, and raw material validation, contributing to the development of new products, continuous improvement of the existing portfolio, and compliance with safety, hygiene, and environmental standards.
You will report to the S&T Product Development Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare architectural paint and coating samples for innovation, optimization, and technical support projects.
Conduct physical, chemical, and performance evaluations of paints using established laboratory methods and equipment.
Participate in formulation development and improvement projects aimed at enhancing performance, reducing costs, and meeting market needs.
Manage laboratory raw material inventory and availability to ensure continuity of development activities.
You will analyze experimental results, providing technical conclusions and recommendations to support decision-making.
Provide technical support to manufacturing plants in resolving issues related to formulations, raw materials, and processes.
You will collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams to ensure successful implementation of new products and improvements.
Maintain up-to-date technical documentation related to formulations, laboratory testing, and product specifications.
Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, occupational health, and environmental standards within the laboratory.
Contribute to continuous improvement projects involving processes, evaluation methodologies, and product development practices.
Participate in activities that promote collaboration, employee engagement, and a positive work environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in paint and coatings formulation, evaluation, or processing.
Experience in laboratory activities related to product development, technical support, and paint performance evaluation.
Knowledge of architectural paint formulation, testing methodologies, and laboratory equipment used for coatings preparation and characterization.
Understanding of coating raw materials, including resins, pigments, extenders, and additives, and laboratory safety and hygiene standards.
Advanced Excel skills; experience with statistical analysis software and ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
Intermediate English proficiency.
