Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations.

Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Chemist provides technical and analytical support for military ground vehicle sustainment, industrial operations, environmental compliance, and quality assurance programs. This position performs chemical analyses and evaluations of fuels, lubricants, coatings, corrosion-control materials, hazardous substances, and industrial processes used in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of military vehicles and equipment. The Chemist supports operational readiness by conducting laboratory testing, interpreting analytical results, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing technical recommendations that improve equipment performance, reliability, and environmental stewardship.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analyses and laboratory testing of fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, coolants, coatings, solvents, and other materials used in vehicle maintenance and sustainment operations.
  • Evaluate material performance, contamination, degradation, and failure trends to support equipment reliability, readiness, and lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Support corrosion prevention and control programs through testing, analysis, and recommendations for protective coatings, treatments, and maintenance practices.
  • Perform environmental and industrial hygiene sampling and analysis related to hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, and industrial operations.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analytical equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Prepare technical reports, laboratory documentation, and recommendations for engineers, maintenance personnel, environmental staff, and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense, Army, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations governing laboratory operations, hazardous materials, and environmental programs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, logisticians, maintenance personnel, and program managers to resolve material, chemical, and environmental issues affecting vehicle and equipment sustainment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related physical science from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of chemical analysis techniques, laboratory practices, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Experience analyzing fuels, lubricants, coatings, corrosion-control materials, hazardous substances, or other industrial chemicals.
  • Knowledge of environmental, hazardous material, hazardous waste, and occupational safety regulations applicable to industrial or maintenance operations.
  • Experience operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret analytical data, conduct technical investigations, and develop recommendations to resolve chemical or material-related issues.
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems, scientific data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
  • Prior government contracting experience

Additional Information

This position will be a part of a physical work environment that requires standing, walking, and lifting. There is potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.
