Position Summary

The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting physicians and the healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient care and a positive patient experience. This position combines strong clinical skills with outstanding customer service to ensure efficient practice operations and high-quality care for all patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support physicians and providers with direct patient care activities in an outpatient setting.
  • Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and medication information.
  • Prepare patient charts, assist with pre-visit planning, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Perform clinical procedures including EKGs, rapid strep testing, urine dip testing, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, and other approved diagnostic procedures.
  • Administer vaccines, injections, and medications in accordance with established protocols.
  • Educate patients regarding medical conditions, treatments, medications, and preventive care within established guidelines.
  • Coordinate and track urgent referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up care.
  • Manage laboratory tracking, data entry, document processing, and other administrative functions.
  • Monitor quality metrics and participate in initiatives to close gaps in care and improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain inventory levels of medications, vaccines, and medical supplies.
  • Monitor and document vaccine storage temperatures in compliance with Department of Health regulations.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, workplace safety, environmental, OSHA, and Department of Health standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all federal, state, and local confidentiality requirements.
  • Protect patient demographic, clinical, and financial information in accordance with Brown Health Medical Group guidelines.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and compassionate patient care.
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational programs, and workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program (minimum nine months in duration) or a minimum of three years of Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory healthcare setting within the last five years.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of medical office procedures, policies, and clinical protocols.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), scheduling software, and standard computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, providers, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide care to patients across the lifespan while considering developmental, cultural, and age-related needs.

Experience

  • Three years of Medical Assistant experience within the past five years in an ambulatory or outpatient healthcare setting; or
  • Recent graduate (within the past two to three years) of a formal Medical Assistant training program.
  • Experience using electronic medical records and appointment scheduling systems preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in healthcare environments including physician offices, ambulatory clinics, hospitals, and affiliated healthcare facilities.
  • Frequent interaction with patients and use of medical equipment.
  • Exposure to potential healthcare-related hazards, minimized through adherence to established safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Frequent standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, move, or position patients and/or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

Pay Range:

$18.13-$29.90
