About this Finance Intern role at Ten Group

OVERVIEW
Are you passionate about finance and eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment?
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop practical skills, and get a real insight into how finance supports a global lifestyle business.
At Ten our goal is simple, to become the most trusted service business in the world.
We are already the global market leader for lifestyle management and concierge services, providing services from a strong global office network with over one thousand employees.
We deliver our service through a combination of Ten’s proprietary, unique technology-enabled platform and the expertise of our highly trained lifestyle managers. Ten is growing quickly and has ambitious plans to innovate and to keep inspiring and to continue to improve the lives of millions of members. Will you help take us there?
As Finance Intern, you will own the daily and weekly transaction processing across our travel and lifestyle membership books. The role keeps the ledgers current and the finance mailboxes clear, so that reconciliation and balance sheet review can be completed to the close calendar.
You will not be aligned to a single book, which broadens your exposure and provides documented cover on either side at month-end. You will be trained, supervised and reviewed day to day by a senior accountant, with matters of judgement referred upwards and agreed with the Member Team Manager where the treatment is not clear-cut.
This is a development position. As tasks become established, you will take on preparation work under review, with progression towards an accountant position within the team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily Processing:
- Take daily ownership of the member payments, travel and credit card mailboxes: process payments and refunds, resolve routine queries, and escalate items that affect a balance sheet position.
- Post receipts and merchant settlement entries to the accounting system accurately and to the daily cut-off.
- Data entry and routine ledger maintenance across both books.
- Act as a contact point for the business on accounts payable and other internal finance queries.
- Month-End and Reconciliation Support:
- Prepare cash-in-transit documentation at close and provide the supporting detail to the accountant.
- Allocate net-zero entries in the balance sheet weekly so that genuine open items remain visible.
- Maintain centrally referenced trackers and schedules so that the accountant and reviewer work from current data.
- Assist with month-end reports, journal preparation, bank and accounts payable reconciliation, and audit requests.
- Documentation, Cover and Other Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain a written process note for each task taken on, so that tasks can be transferred without reliance on an individual.
- Act as named secondary owner for processing tasks across both books and cover them during absence.
- Support the finance systems team with routine queries, and the wider finance team with ad-hoc tasks, reports and projects.
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS:
As Finance Intern, you will be expected to role model the behaviors associated with our Ten Standards and our core business values of Member Focused, Trustworthy, and Pioneering. You will be dependable and consistent in delivering routine work to deadline, well organised across two books concurrently, and methodical about documentation, treating written process notes as part of the work. You will be curious about the accounting behind the transactions and keen to develop technically.
We encourage diverse philosophies, cultures and experiences.
We appreciate diversity and are dedicated to creating an inclusive work environment for our employees. This idea unites the teams at TEN. All aspects of our relationship, including the decision to hire, promote, discipline or terminate, will be based on merit, competence, performance and business needs.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Studying towards ACCA or CIMA, or a recent accounting or finance graduate.
- BCom or National Diploma in Accounting or Finance beneficial.
- Consistent accuracy in high-volume transactional work.
- Prior accounts payable, ledger, bookkeeping or bank posting experience advantageous.
- Merchant account processing experience and knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central advantageous but not essential.
ROLE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
- Working knowledge of Excel, including lookups, filters, sorting and matching ledger data; Power Query knowledge beneficial.
- Clear and professional written English, used daily to resolve queries with colleagues and third parties.
- Able to work to a daily processing cut-off and to flag potential delays in advance.
- Sound judgement about when to escalate a transaction rather than resolve it independently.
- Keen eye for detail and a desire to probe further into data.
- Delivers to tight deadlines, for example month-end close.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to confidentiality in financial matters.
- Self-motivation, good communication and teamworking skills.
- An interest in automation and building efficient, documented processes
Guidelines for Hybrid/Home Office:
- This role is Cape Town–based and requires candidates to commute to the office at least 2 days per week. Please note this is a non-negotiable requirement.
- A secure home office at your confirmed address, free from background noise or other distractions when working remotely
- Internet service must meet minimum requirements and minimum speed check must be completed
