Schulich School of Music - Digital Composition Studios
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Digital Composition Studios (DCS) Directors, the DCS Assistant supports the daily operation of the Digital Composition Studios by maintaining studio facilities and equipment, assisting users, providing technical support, and helping with the setup and delivery of classes, workshops, projects, and events. The role also supports equipment management, studio bookings, and basic audio/video production activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help keep the five Digital Composition Studios ready for use by checking rooms, equipment, and work areas, and reporting any issues.
- Assist with studio bookings, room access, and equipment loans in accordance with established DCS procedures.
- Prepare rooms and equipment for classes, workshops, rehearsals, and student projects.
- Set up and provide first-line troubleshooting for microphones, audio interfaces, speakers, cameras, projection systems, and other studio or event equipment.
- Assist students, instructors, and teaching assistants with the use of DCS software, recording equipment, and established studio workflows.
- Prepare and deliver introductory workshops, software demonstrations, tutorials, and user instructions.
- Assist with concert setup and technical support, including sound checks, equipment operation, and equipment teardown following events.
- Support the audio and video documentation of concerts, workshops, and other selected DCS activities, and organize the resulting files.
- Maintain the production equipment inventory by preparing, transporting, signing out, checking in, and storing equipment, and reporting faults and repair needs.
- Coordinate with the DCS Directors regarding daily studio operations.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Demonstrated familiarity and experience with advanced Western art music (including notation) and contemporary music practice and composition that includes technology.
- Advanced knowledge of audio/video or graphic software is required.
