About Waythrough

Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England.

Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

Start your career in recovery and make a real difference

Are you passionate about helping people make positive changes in their lives?

Do you want to build a rewarding career where every day brings the opportunity to support someone towards a safer, healthier and more independent future?

If so, this could be the perfect opportunity to take your first step into a career in recovery support.

We’re looking for an Apprentice Recovery Coordinator to join our Opiate and Over the Counter teams at Forward Leeds. You’ll receive dedicated support and on-the-job experience while working towards a Level 2 Adult Care apprenticeship, giving you the opportunity to develop valuable skills, knowledge and experience as you build your career.

You don’t need to have previous experience in this type of role. What matters most is your compassion, willingness to learn and genuine desire to help others.

About the role

Forward Leeds provides specialist support to people experiencing problematic substance use. As an Apprentice Recovery Coordinator, you’ll learn how to provide person-centred, tailored support that helps people identify their goals, reduce harm and make positive changes.

With support from experienced colleagues, you’ll develop the skills to:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with people accessing our service.

  • Provide tailored support based on individual needs, goals and circumstances.

  • Develop, implement and review recovery and treatment plans.

  • Work towards managing your own caseload as your skills and confidence develop.

  • Support people to reduce the harms associated with substance use.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other services to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Develop your knowledge and understanding of recovery-focused practice.

  • Complete your Level 2 Adult Care apprenticeship with a local training provider, including Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English if required.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn while you work, putting your new skills into practice and developing the confidence you need to progress in a rewarding career.

About you

We’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference to people’s lives.

You’ll be empathetic, patient and understanding, with a belief that everyone deserves fair opportunities and the chance to make positive changes.

You don’t need to have all the answers or have worked in a recovery service before. We’ll support you to learn and develop. What we’re looking for is someone who is:

  • Caring, compassionate and non-judgemental.

  • A good listener who can build positive relationships.

  • Open-minded and respectful of people’s individual experiences.

  • Keen to learn and develop new skills.

  • Committed to completing the Level 2 Adult Care apprenticeship.

  • Comfortable using basic IT, as you’ll use a laptop as part of your role.

Your experience matters

At Waythrough, we recognise the unique value that lived experience can bring to supporting others.

We actively welcome applications from people with personal experience of alcohol or substance use, accessing recovery services, or experiencing mental health challenges.

Your experience doesn’t have to come from previous employment. Volunteering, community involvement and lived experience will all be valued.

If you’re passionate about helping others and ready to learn, we’d love to hear from you.
