Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support the clinical team in delivering high-quality respiratory healthcare and wellbeing interventions to service users. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will provide practical clinical support to individuals with respiratory conditions, support smoking cessation initiatives, undertake healthcare assessments, and contribute to improving health outcomes across the community.

You will play an important role in delivering safe, person-centred care, supporting clinics and health programmes, promoting healthier lifestyles, and ensuring high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and infection control.

Key Duties

  • Support service user assessments, care plans, and clinical reviews.

  • Undertake clinical procedures within your level of training and competency, including phlebotomy, ECGs, health observations, vaccinations, and respiratory assessments.

  • Support the delivery of respiratory care services, including services for individuals living with long-term respiratory conditions.

  • Assist with smoking cessation programmes, providing practical support and encouragement to service users seeking to quit smoking.

  • Conduct healthcare assessments and contribute to health improvement plans.

  • Support health promotion initiatives aimed at improving respiratory health and overall wellbeing.

  • Monitor and support individuals receiving community-based health interventions, including alcohol detoxification and recovery programmes where required.

  • Deliver health education and harm reduction advice.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and service user information in line with organisational policies.

  • Maintain clean, safe clinical environments and adhere to infection prevention and control standards.

  • Work collaboratively with clinicians and wider healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of effective care.

About You

You are a caring, compassionate, and proactive individual with a genuine desire to improve people's health and wellbeing. You are confident supporting clinical activities within a community healthcare setting and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within a healthcare setting.

  • Experience in Respiratory Care and/or Smoking Cessation services.

  • Experience working within a clinic, community healthcare service, or GP surgery environment.

  • Phlebotomy and ECG experience, or a willingness to undertake training.

  • Experience supporting individuals with alcohol-related health needs, including exposure to alcohol cessation programmes and community alcohol detoxification support.

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).

  • Maths and English qualifications.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles.

  • Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection requirements.

  • Strong communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.

  • The ability to carry out delegated clinical procedures following training and competency assessment.
