Job Description

Purpose of the role

To manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting. 

Accountabilities

  • Management of the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, and other accounting records in accordance with the relevant accounting standards, rules and regulations.
  • Support in identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, and report on these financial risks to senior colleagues.
  • Development and maintenance of a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure that there is no fraudulent misreporting, and ensure the accuracy of financial data, including regular assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls addressing any weaknesses or gaps.  .
  • Development and implementation of up-to-date financial policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective financial practices across the organisation.
  • Management of the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software applications, including collaboration with IT colleagues to integrate financial systems with other enterprise systems.
  • Preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory reports to authorities, and provision of support to other departments in their preparation and review of regulatory reports.
  • Coordination with external auditors and regulatory authorities in support of audits and examinations.

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will be a subject matter expert within own discipline and will guide technical direction. They will lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management on functional and cross functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem solving processes.
  • Seek out, build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as experience with as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

To be successful in this role you should have below skills:

  • Qualified CA / CPA / ACCA / MBA preferred.

  • Finance technology familiarity.

  • Experience in sub‑ledger implementations and modern Finance platforms & regulatory awareness.

  • Understanding of evolving regulatory expectations relating to data quality, governance, and reporting.

  • Continuous Improvement Mindset.

  • Ability to bring innovation, challenge status‑quo, and drive automation.

Some other highly valued skills may include below:

  • Deep Finance & Accounting Expertise

    • Strong understanding of Finance Control and Banking processes, including ledger systems and sub‑ledger architecture.

    • Knowledge of multi‑GAAP accounting principles, IFRS, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting requirements.

    • Ability to resolve complex accounting and data issues across Finance systems and products.

  • Controls, Governance & Risk Management

    • Strong knowledge of governance frameworks such as SOX, audit readiness, and control design.

    • Ability to embed risk management principles in Finance processes and ensure compliance with Barclays’ Policy & Controls standards.

  • Transformation & Process Re‑design Skills

    • Experience leading Finance transformation or large‑scale process redesign initiatives.

    • Understanding of lean, Six Sigma, and process‑management techniques.

    • Capability to modernize legacy processes and reduce manual interventions/EUDA usage.

  • Stakeholder Management & Leadership

    • Ability to influence, align, and communicate with senior stakeholders across Finance, Tech, Transformation, and Operations.

    • Experience running governance forums, SME working groups, and driving decisions through complex stakeholder landscapes.

    • Strong leadership behaviours aligned to Barclays LEAD model (Listen, Energise, Align, Develop).

  • Project & Delivery Management

    • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and deliver complex multi‑year programmes.

    • Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills to manage milestones and dependencies.

    • Experience with end‑to‑end delivery of Finance technology or data‑driven initiatives.

  • Analytical & Problem‑Solving Skills

    • Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret data, identify issues, and drive structured solutions.

    • Ability to troubleshoot reconciliation, variance analysis, and data‑quality challenges.

  • Communication & Influence

    • Clear written and verbal communication skills for articulating requirements, risks, and outcomes.

    • Ability to simplify complex topics for senior management consumption.

  • Collaboration & Enterprise Mindset

    • Ability to partner with Product Owners, Technology SMEs, Data SMEs, and Finance teams across BUK/IB/Group.

    • Strong collaboration working within matrix organisations.
