Department Overview

Rakuten Travel Xchange is Rakuten Group's accommodation wholesaling and travel technology business, connecting accommodation providers with travel companies around the world.

The service is built on a Singapore-based travel technology company acquired in 2019. Through APIs, a Travel Agent Portal, and customizable websites, it provides travel companies with centralized access to the inventory and rates of hotels and vacation rentals worldwide.

Since joining Rakuten Group in 2019, the business has achieved significant growth, with gross transaction value (GTV) increasing 120 times​ over seven years. It currently provides inventory from approximately 700,000 accommodation properties to more than 1,000 partners across over 90 countries. While further strengthening the Japan inbound business that has driven its growth to date, Rakuten Travel Xchange will expand its supply and distribution network, particularly across APAC, with the aim of becoming a Japan-originated global accommodation distribution platform.

With its headquarters and key finance and accounting team members based in Singapore, the business manages a growing volume of multi-currency, cross-border transactions - making the strengthening of cash management, FX risk management, and management accounting functions a strategic priority.

To drive business growth from a financial perspective, we are creating a new position responsible for three core pillars: overseeing day-to-day cash operations, reviewing P&L forecasts and variance analyses, and executing the FX hedge program - working closely with the Finance Manager and collaborating seamlessly with the Singapore-based finance and accounting team.

The Finance Group is a lean, high-impact group where individuals take on responsibility and have direct influence on strategic decisions. This role offers a unique opportunity to build cross-functional expertise in treasury, management accounting, and FX hedging within a truly global environment.

・A central role in the finance function of a truly global, multi-currency business
  └ Gain hands-on experience managing multi-currency cash flows, making FX conversion decisions, and building banking relationships.
・Direct involvement in management accounting and executive reporting
  └ From reviewing weekly P&L forecasts to preparing monthly variance analyses and presenting to management - you will work with the numbers that drive business decisions.
・Leading the FX hedge program end-to-end
  └ Manage the full cycle: executing FX forward contracts, monitoring hedge effectiveness, and maintaining and revising the hedge policy.
・Reporting directly to the Finance Manager and CFO
  └ As part of a lean, high-impact team, your proposals will directly influence business strategy.
・Daily collaboration with the Singapore-based finance and accounting team
  └ RTX's core finance function operates out of Singapore. In this role, you will communicate with the Singapore team in English every day, giving you genuine exposure to globally-aligned finance practices and the chance to build an international career from within a Japanese base.

This role is designed for a finance professional who aspires to develop into a Treasurer or Finance Manager supporting the CFO, and who wants to contribute to the strengthening of RTX's global financial infrastructure.

Position Details

As the Treasury & Financial Control Team Lead within RTX's Finance team, you will serve as a key driver of the financial management function supporting the company's global operations.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will lead three core areas: (1) Treasury & Cash Management, (2) Management Accounting & Budgeting, and (3) FX Hedge Management. Much of your work will be carried out in close collaboration with the finance and accounting team based in Singapore, communicating in English on a daily basis. You will continuously improve financial operations and build the financial infrastructure that supports management decision-making as the business scales.


1. Treasury & Cash Management
・Review weekly cash flow and bank balance reports
・Review weekly payment runs and verify risk
・Management, maintenance, and escalation point for VCC transactions
・Drive bank infrastructure projects

2. Management Accounting & Budgeting
・Review weekly P&L forecasts and align assumptions with business units
・Prepare monthly budget variance analysis and present to management
・Ensure accuracy of FX P&L details and verify proper reflection in financial reports
・Annual budget preparation and rolling forecast updates

3. FX Hedge Management
・Execute FX forward contracts in line with the hedge policy
・Manage relationships and negotiations with FX/banking providers
・Monitor hedge effectiveness and monthly FX P&L
・Revise and maintain hedge policy in response to business changes
・Report FX risk positions to Finance Manager and senior management

Mandatory Qualifications:

Experience
・At least 5 years of practical experience in finance, accounting, or treasury
・Hands-on experience in FX risk management (hedging, FX forwards, etc.) or international payments and remittances
・Experience preparing and managing monthly and annual financial reports
・Experience in management accounting tasks such as P&L forecasting and budget variance analysis
・Experience collaborating with overseas teams in English

Skills
・Financial analysis and numerical skills (Excel, etc.)
・Understanding and operational experience of financial policies and internal controls
・Strong communication and negotiation skills (both internal and external stakeholders)

Languages
・Business-level communication skills in both English and Japanese
  (Daily communication with the Singapore-based team is conducted in English)

Desired Qualifications:

FX / Treasury
・Experience designing or revising FX hedging policies

Management Accounting / Financial Control
・Experience as primary owner of rolling forecasts and annual budgeting
・Experience preparing financial commentary and reports for senior management
・FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) experience
・Experience managing FX P&L accounting and reporting
・Experience using ERP or financial systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)

Global Finance
・Finance experience at a multinational company
・Experience collaborating on finance matters with overseas offices or subsidiaries
・Experience managing international remittances or payment schemes such as VCC
