The Nurse Clinician demonstrates a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the complex patients and their responses to actual or potential health problems. This role assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. The Nurse Clinician provides direction, education, leadership and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation in area of responsibility. This role includes professional development and empowerment of staff as well as management of resources to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency and cost.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current RN Licensure in Virginia
AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED:
5 years nursing experience required
Minimum of one year experience in the position's specialty patient population or practice setting

Experience PREFERRED:
Experience in staff education and professional development (orientation, preceptorship, in-services education, etc.)
Academic health care experience

Education/training REQUIRED: 
Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program at the time of application and must be complete within 36 months of hire. Special consideration will be given for applicants enrolled in Baccalaureate to Doctoral programs who will not attain a Master’s degree and may require longer than 36 months to complete the terminal degree.   

Education/training PREFERRED:
Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field. If the master’s degree is not in Nursing, then it is required to have a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing

Independent action(s) required:
Has full authority and accountability for direction and leadership of program planning, guideline development, setting of practice standards within the confines of organizations/divisions/units mission, goals and objectives.
Manages human, fiscal and other resources to ensure quality programs/processes/services with measurable positive outcomes.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
Negotiable with immediate supervisor in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.

Additional position requirements:
Will generally work day shift, but may require flexibility for special projects or to meet organization and staff needs.

Age Specific groups served: As appropriate based on unit assignment.

The Trauma Performance Improvement /Nurse Clinician is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. Responsible for driving outcomes through direct and indirect patient care, assists with guideline development, trauma related education initiatives both internally and externally, and evaluates and monitors the quality of clinical care of the injured patient across the continuum of care from point of injury to discharge from the hospital. Coordinates and monitors the effectiveness of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) program as determined by regional, state, and national standards. Serves as a clinical resource on trauma care for pre-hospital personnel, referring hospitals, units, departments, and staff involved in the care of the trauma patient.

 

 

 

 

Compensation Range

$78,250.00 - $133,578.00

Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
