Overview

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our Acute Care Surgery team at High Point Medical Center in High Point, North Carolina.

This full-time position offers the opportunity to practice emergency general surgery (EGS) and trauma surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings while working closely with surgeons in a collaborative, high-acuity environment. The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive patient care and serve as a first assist in the operating room.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage EGS and trauma surgery patients across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and formulate treatment plans
  • Collaborate with trauma surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Serve as first assist during surgical procedures
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care
  • Participate in evening and weekend call rotation schedules
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and follow-up care

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Eligible for or current North Carolina Physician Assistant licensure
  • Ability to obtain medical staff privileges at High Point Medical Center

Preferred

  • Interest or experience in Trauma Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, or Surgical Critical Care
  • Strong procedural and clinical assessment skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent communication and patient-centered care skills

Schedule & Call

The Physician Assistant works a Monday through Friday schedule and participates in a weekly evening call rotation that includes weekend call responsibilities. The role includes responsibilities in both the outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital settings, as well as serving as first assist in the operating room.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program, Master's degree preferred

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License
  • Certified by NCCPA

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Using medical decision-making skills to determine appropriate patient care plan. Collaborates with medical team when needed for effective team-based care. Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. Procedural skills per department or practice guidelines. Opportunity to participate in basic science and clinical research projects. Potential for and encouraged to precept students and/or medical learners.
