  • ナレッジに関するQ&A・リサーチ支援:Notion AI、NotebookLM(ドキュメントのアップロードとQ&A)

    • 日本語:Proficient(CEFR B2)以上必須
    • 英語:Proficient(CEFR B2)以上必須

About the Mercari Group

Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people

"With the earth's resources limited, what can we do to build a more abundant society?" In 2013, the flea market app "Mercari" was born out of this sense of purpose that founder Shintaro Yamada developed during a trip around the world. We believe that by circulating all forms of value, not limited to physical goods and money, we can expand everyone's options to realize what they want to do and to contribute to people and society.

Through the power of technology we connect people around the world and work to realize a world in which the potential of all people can be unleashed. For the Mercari Group's direction, please see the Mercari Culture Doc.

Organization / Team Mission

AI Enablement designs how the Mercari Group builds products next (Mercari AI PDLC: Product Development Life Cycle). Our mission is to convert the Group's product development process into an AI-native one, across the Marketplace, FinTech and Cross-Border businesses.

Our customer is internal. It is every discipline that works inside the development process: Product Management, Engineering, Design, QA, BI, Marketing, and Compliance and Legal. We work alongside the product teams to learn what genuinely helps them, and with the engineering teams that own our shared services to turn what works into something the whole Group can rely on.

AI capability changes every quarter. We keep a clear view of what AI can do today, a stated view of what it will do in six to twelve months, and we plan against both. What we deliver is a better way of working, measured by how widely the teams adopt it and keep it.

Under a development structure that assumes AI, we pursue both speed and the maximization of customer value at the same time. Product Managers concentrate on the most important problem discovery (Discovery) and business outcomes (Outcome), and move the product forward the AI-native way.

With AI, the scope of one person's role expands. A small team can now own a whole product area, so we run more of those teams and pursue more customer value at once. Each team owns its area from problem to release, and keeps the judgement: what to build and what to ship.

  • For details on Mercari's mission and values, please see here.

Responsibilities

Hundreds of engineers, product managers, designers, QA engineers and analysts build Mercari's products across several businesses. You will own how they work: the tools they use, the practices they follow, and the process they run.

The question you will spend your time on, is this. When an agent can write, test and review a large share of the work, what does the best version of our development process look like, and what has to change to get there? No company has the finished answer. You will work it out with the teams, prove it with working software, and make it the way Mercari builds.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Own the strategy and roadmap for how Mercari builds products
    • Define what an AI-native way of building looks like here: the tools, the practices and the process, and the order in which you change them
    • Decide what comes next using evidence from the teams, from the market and from your own experiments, then get that plan agreed with the leadership team and the function leads
    • Keep the plan live. When better evidence arrives, change the plan and say what changed it
  • 2. Find the problems worth solving
    • Work directly with the product teams across the Group to see where the current way of working costs them time or quality. The clearest signal comes from watching real work.
    • Turn what you find into a prioritized set of hypotheses, each with a success condition agreed in advance
    • Use AI tools to move faster on this: research, analysis and prototypes in days rather than sprints
  • 3. Build it, then prove it works
    • Prototype it yourself. When a working version answers the question faster than a document, build the working version
    • Set the success criteria with the team whose work it changes, before the pilot starts, and judge the result against them
    • Decide what graduates. There are many AI tools, so you will run many experiments, and only a few will earn a permanent place. Those graduate into a platform service, and the work then shifts to scaling it to every team in the company
  • 4. Get it adopted, and check that it lasts
    • Design the path from launch to real use: onboarding, documentation, training, and the internal communication that reaches the right people at the right time
    • Treat enablement as a product. It has users, a quality bar, and a number attached to it
    • Track adoption and output quality together, and decide the next move. Both numbers go up together: the teams move faster and the work gets better
  • 5. Work across every discipline in the lifecycle
    • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Design, QA, BI, Marketing, Compliance and Legal. Each of them owns its own standards, and together you build a shared view of what changes and where each team's autonomy starts
    • Bring leadership a clear position on what AI can do today, what it will do within a year, and what that means for the decisions in front of them

Examples of tools used on the job

  • General chat / generative AI: Claude, Gemini
  • Knowledge QA / research support: Notion AI, NotebookLM (upload documents + Q&A)
  • Development support (code completion / coding agents / IDE): Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Devin, Codex, Gemini Code Assist
  • Workflow automation / AI app development (no-code / low-code): Zapier, n8n

Unique Challenges

  • The scope is the whole company. What you change shows up in the daily work of hundreds of people across several businesses, not in one feature of one product
  • You stay hands-on. Prototyping is part of the job. You will spend real time building with the newest tools, often before anyone else here has tried them
  • The answer does not exist yet. No company has a finished playbook for AI-native product development. You get to write ours, publish it, and watch other teams pick it up
  • You transform teams over with what you build. People here adopt a new way of working because it is clearly better. A working demo travels faster than a mandate, and you get to run that experiment continuously
  • You decide what lasts. Most AI tools will be replaced within a year. A few become the base that everything else is built on. Spotting the difference early is the most interesting call in this role
  • Under a development structure that assumes AI, you can raise the resolution of the team's discussions and decisions starting from working prototypes, freeing the PdM to focus on the Discovery and Outcome they should truly concentrate on. Beyond the data platform and product development, you can move the product forward with broad discretion, including planning and driving new customer experiences.

Requirements

  • Required experience / skills
    • You resonate with the mission and values of the Mercari Group and of each company
    • You can demonstrate consistent ownership from discovery through to delivered value, using AI
      • Experience using AI tools for research, hypothesis validation, and prototyping; integrating data and user understanding; and improving the quality and speed of decision-making
      • Experience owning a measurable outcome rather than a feature count, and leading the full cycle of discover → build → learn. The outcomes in this role are internal: how widely a new way of working is adopted, and the speed and quality of the work that follows
      • Experience owning the period after a release: driving adoption, coordinating across divisions, and learning from how people actually use what you shipped
    • Experience in product management for technical products (3+ years), for example internal tooling, developer platforms, SaaS or infrastructure
    • Basic knowledge of software development (agile, etc.) and experience collaborating with engineering teams
    • Experience extracting insights through data analysis using SQL, etc.
  • Preferred experience / skills
    • Experience as a technical product manager across more than one domain, for example web, mobile, backend, data or design systems. Breadth matters here more than depth in any single one
    • Experience changing how people work outside your own reporting line, and making the change stick
    • Practical experience with AI tools beyond chat: supplying the context, defining the tools an agent can call, and checking output quality with an evaluation set
    • Experience with internal products, platform work, developer experience or developer productivity, where teams choose whether to adopt what you build
    • Experience taking an internal product from nothing to something, and then to widely used
    • Experience aligning with Legal, BizOps, leadership and external partners
    • Comfortable with experiments and metrics. You can design a test, read the result, and change your mind
    • Experience designing enablement, training or technical documentation for an internal audience
  • Language
    • Japanese: Proficient (CEFR B2) or above required
    • English: Proficient (CEFR B2) or above required
    • You will use both languages every week. Discussions with the function leads and training for the teams happen mostly in Japanese, and written material goes out in both.
  • ※ For details on CEFR, please see here.

We know strong candidates rarely match every line above. If most of this describes you, please apply.
