Über diese Technical Consultant Stelle bei EdSights
At EdSights, we're building the technology for higher education to understand what students are actually thinking and feeling, so they can act before small struggles become big problems. We call it Student Voice Intelligence: engaging students in real-time, AI-powered conversations, uncovering the real drivers of attrition, and delivering those insights to power student success and enrollment workflows.
Today, we partner with 300+ colleges and universities across the country. We're backed by an $80M investment from JMI Equity and are in a phase of rapid execution and expansion. This is an opportunity to do meaningful, hands-on work at a high-growth startup tackling one of higher education's most urgent challenges: helping more students persist from enrollment through graduation.
You’ll join a driven, thoughtful team that values ownership, moves quickly, and cares deeply about building products that make a measurable difference for students.
“EdSights has perhaps the world’s most valuable data set on what college students need to navigate their academic lives.”
- The Washington Post
The Technical Consultant plays a key role in ensuring reliable and scalable data integrations between EdSights and customer institutions. This role owns the technical design, configuration, documentation, and ongoing health of integrations that allow customer data to flow into the EdSights platform and EdSights data to flow into customer systems.
Working consultatively with customer IT teams, the Technical Consultant advises on data mapping, data structure, and integration design to establish secure, reliable data transfers that align with institutional workflows, reporting needs, and long-term sustainability.
Today, the role focuses primarily on SFTP-based data imports and exports, while partnering closely with Implementation, Engineering, Product, Partner Success, and customer IT teams throughout the integration lifecycle. As EdSights' integration capabilities evolve, this role will help shape how we approach and scale integrations beyond our current workflows.
EdSights has built a strong foundation of customer integrations, and this role brings dedicated ownership to that work as we scale. As an early member of an evolving function, the Technical Consultant will help shape the processes, documentation, and best practices that make our integrations reliable, sustainable, and repeatable. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, thinks critically and independently, brings strong project management discipline and a bias toward action, and is energized by building process and infrastructure in a role that is still taking shape.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end configuration of customer integrations, from requirements gathering and technical discovery through setup, testing, and successful delivery. Coordinate directly with customer IT teams and partner with the appropriate EdSights customer lead based on where the customer is in their lifecycle — working closely with the Implementation Manager for customers in onboarding and the Partner Success Manager for customers who have already launched.
Provide ongoing technical ownership and support for customer integrations, troubleshooting issues, maintaining existing configurations, and partnering with customers and internal teams as integration needs evolve over time.
Own the setup, support, and ongoing maintenance of SFTP-based data imports and exports, ensuring files are formatted correctly, delivered securely, and processed reliably.
Own the migration of legacy partners from manual file uploads to automated SFTP-based integrations, including assessing current state, scoping the technical lift, and project managing the transition from kickoff through go-live.
Validate incoming customer data for accuracy, completeness, and formatting consistency, applying strong critical thinking to troubleshoot integration failures and diagnose root-cause data quality issues rather than just symptoms.
Coordinate with Engineering and Product to configure and maintain customer exports, including export files, data structures, mappings, and delivery schedules for systems such as Starfish, Navigate, and Salesforce.
Project manage integration and export projects end-to-end, owning project plans, timelines, dependencies, and follow-up across multiple concurrent customer projects. Lead technical setup meetings with clear objectives and agendas, ensure the right stakeholders are engaged, proactively identify and resolve blockers, drive action items to completion, and maintain clear communication with customers and internal teams through successful delivery.
Report up consistently on integration project progress, risks, and customer-impacting issues, escalating early and coming prepared with options and recommendations.
Develop expertise in customer platforms and technology stacks to provide recommendations and share best practices on data mapping, field usage, integration design, and export structure.
Build and evolve EdSights' integration processes and documentation, including playbooks, SOPs, integration configurations, file formats, schedules, customer-specific requirements, and documentation standards. Proactively identify gaps and propose scalable solutions that improve internal visibility, consistency, and repeatability as the integration function grows.
About You
Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in technical consulting, solutions engineering, implementation, or a similar customer-facing technical role, ideally in a SaaS or EdTech environment. This is not an entry-level role — we're looking for someone who can operate independently, own ambiguous problems, and bring seasoned judgment from day one.
Strong project management skills are essential for success in this role, with demonstrated experience independently leading multiple concurrent technical or integration projects from discovery through delivery. Able to build and maintain project plans, manage timelines and dependencies, lead effective customer meetings, coordinate stakeholders, proactively surface risks and blockers, and drive action items through completion. Experience using project management tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Jira, or similar is expected.
Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and analytical problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to diagnose root causes across integrations, data files, and system configurations and develop sustainable solutions rather than one-off fixes.
Strong communication skills and technical acumen, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and work consultatively with customer IT teams to design, implement, and troubleshoot integrations.
Experience working with structured data files, such as CSV or flat files, including analyzing, mapping, validating, and troubleshooting data between systems.
Strong understanding of data integrations and secure file transfers, including SFTP workflows, file naming conventions, scheduled data exchanges, and system-to-system data flows. Deep experience with SFTP-based integrations and working knowledge of SQL are strongly preferred.
Experience building and maintaining playbooks, SOPs, or internal documentation using tools such as Notion, Confluence, or similar, with an eye toward making processes repeatable and scalable for a growing team.
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with teams such as Implementation, Product, Engineering, and Partner Success, with demonstrated ability to keep stakeholders aligned and work moving forward.
Experience with higher education systems or student success platforms is a plus.
Aptitude & Mindset
Self-starter with a strong bias for action and sharp problem-solving instincts — takes initiative, drives outcomes, and moves ideas into execution without requiring significant oversight.
Comfortable stepping into an early-stage, evolving function and taking ownership to build process, structure, and capabilities in ambiguity, creating momentum as the role and function mature.
Customer First mindset — builds trust with customer teams, communicates proactively, and treats the customer experience as an integral part of high-quality technical work, including when navigating complexity, setbacks, or tight timelines.
