Job Description
The Future Operations Virtualization Systems Administrator will support the operation, maintenance, and modernization of infrastructure within a LAB/FUOPs environment. The primary focus of this position is administering VMware virtualization technologies, including VMware ESXi 7 and 8 and vSphere/vCenter 8, running on a FlexPod infrastructure composed of NetApp ONTAP storage, Cisco Unified Computing System hardware, Cisco UCS Manager, and Broadcom/VMware hypervisors.
The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of virtualization principles beyond a specific vendor or product. Foundational knowledge of containerization and other infrastructure platforms is important so the administrator can support future technology transitions and platform modernization efforts. This position requires hands-on collaboration across virtualization, compute, storage, networking, Linux, and security disciplines.
Virtualization Administration
Deploy, configure, administer, and maintain VMware ESXi 7 and 8 hosts, vSphere/vCenter 8, clusters, and virtual machines.
Manage virtual infrastructure components, including templates, resource pools, datastores, standard and distributed virtual switches, and content libraries.
Support VMware capabilities such as vMotion, Storage vMotion, High Availability, Distributed Resource Scheduler, host profiles, and role-based access control.
Perform system patching, upgrades, certificate maintenance, and lifecycle-management activities for ESXi hosts, vCenter, and related VMware components.
Monitor and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, capacity, resource utilization, availability, and stability.
Troubleshoot complex issues involving virtual machines, hypervisors, virtual networking, storage connectivity, physical servers, and supporting infrastructure.
Plan and support workload migrations, technology refreshes, and transitions between test, lab, and operational environments.
Apply platform-independent virtualization concepts to support the evaluation or adoption of alternate hypervisors, private-cloud platforms, or container-based solutions.
FlexPod, Compute, and Storage Support
Support FlexPod infrastructure consisting of Cisco UCS compute, Cisco networking, NetApp ONTAP storage, and VMware virtualization technologies.
Perform foundational-to-intermediate Cisco UCS administration using Cisco UCS Manager.
Support Cisco UCS components and configurations, including chassis, servers, Fabric Interconnects, service profiles, server pools, vNICs, VLANs, policies, and firmware packages.
Assist with physical server provisioning, hardware replacement, firmware updates, health monitoring, and fault isolation.
Perform foundational-to-intermediate administration and troubleshooting of NetApp systems running ONTAP.
Support storage components and concepts such as Storage Virtual Machines, aggregates, volumes, LUNs, NFS datastores, snapshots, multipathing, and capacity monitoring.
Troubleshoot infrastructure issues across the compute, storage, network, and virtualization layers.
Coordinate infrastructure changes with compute, storage, network, security, and application teams.
Network Support
Provide foundational-to-intermediate Layer 2 and basic Layer 3 network support.
Support Cisco Nexus 9000-series switches in various form factors and configurations.
Configure or troubleshoot VLANs, access and trunk ports, port channels, Spanning Tree Protocol, MTU settings, NIC teaming, and virtual-switch uplinks.
Apply working knowledge of IPv4 addressing, subnetting, default gateways, static routes, inter-VLAN connectivity, DNS, and network time synchronization.
Diagnose connectivity, packet loss, latency, VLAN, routing, DNS, MTU, and physical-link issues affecting virtualized systems.
Collaborate with network engineering teams on changes or incidents requiring advanced switching, routing, or data-center fabric expertise.
