Support Safety Director

Company: Camping World

Reports To: VP of Safety

Location: Lincolnshire, IL (Support Office)

Travel: 10% travel

Position Summary

The Support Safety Director owns the design, development, and continuous improvement of Camping World's enterprise environmental, health, and safety programs. Reporting to the VP of Safety, this role builds the standards, training content, vendor partnerships, technology, and reporting infrastructure that the field organization executes against. Where the Field Safety Director drives execution in the dealerships, this role builds the systems, tools, and data that make consistent execution possible, and sustains the company's “True North” culture through program governance rather than territory oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the development, documentation, and lifecycle management of enterprise EHS programs, written policies, and SOPs, including fall protection, RV roof access, forklift and powered industrial truck operations, LOTO, hot work, welding, hazard communication, and emergency action planning.

  • Serve as the technical authority on OSHA, EPA, DOT, fire code, and applicable state and local requirements; monitor regulatory change and translate new requirements into program updates, tools, and field-ready guidance.

  • Partner with the Field Safety Director and Division Safety Managers to ensure programs are operationally practical, field-tested before rollout, and supported after launch.

  • Assist with onboarding, and managing third-party safety vendors and service providers, including training platforms, industrial hygiene, environmental services, waste disposal, PPE, and equipment inspection partners.

  • Own vendor performance management, including scopes of work, service level expectations, quality audits, cost control, and annual budget planning for the safety function.

  • Build and administer the enterprise EHS technology stack, including incident reporting, audit, inspection, and learning management systems; own configuration, data integrity, user access, and system roadmap.

  • Design and maintain safety metrics, dashboards, and executive scorecards; deliver recurring leading and lagging indicator reporting on incident trends, audit results, training completion, and corrective action closure.

  • Analyze incident, claims, and audit data to identify systemic risk, prioritize program investment, and recommend targeted interventions to the VP of Safety and senior leadership.

  • Develop enterprise safety training curricula and content, including new hire onboarding, role-based training, RV-specific hazard training, and instructor materials used by field safety leaders.

  • Manage regulatory recordkeeping and reporting, including OSHA 300/300A logs, electronic submissions, environmental permits and reporting, and required postings across all locations.

  • Partner with HR, Risk Management, Legal, and third-party claims administrators on workers' compensation program design, return-to-work standards, and loss prevention strategy.

  • Lead the safety due diligence and program integration playbook for newly acquired locations, and provide the standards, templates, and toolkits the field uses during integration.

  • Manage the safety program calendar, annual program review cycle, and communication cadence to keep field leaders aligned on priorities, campaigns, and requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or related field.

  • 8+ years of progressive safety experience, including 3+ years developing and managing enterprise or corporate-level EHS programs for a multi-site organization.

  • Experience in automotive retail, RV service, commercial truck/service operations, equipment manufacturing, construction, industrial manufacturing, or logistics.

  • CSP designation required; strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, regulatory recordkeeping, program governance, and EHS management systems.

  • Strong data and systems capability, including EHS software administration, dashboard and report building, and advanced Excel; ability to turn data into clear recommendations for executives.

  • Proven ability to write clear, usable policies, SOPs, and training content for a frontline audience.

  • Strong collaboration and influence skills, with the ability to partner effectively with field safety leadership, operations, HR, Legal, and external partners.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% for site support, vendor management, and program rollout.
