Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Personal Trainer. The student worker will be responsible for educating clients and enforcing policies regarding safe and proper use of equipment. Individuals holding this position must be able to develop, document, and implement one-on-one, partner, or group workout programs that match the needs and goals of clients. This person must be able to instruct clients on basic exercise physiology and inform them of proper lifting and exercise techniques.

Core Responsibilities:

Personal Training

  • Independently implement safe and effective personal training to the campus population to support client health, fitness and overall well-being.
  • Providing personal training services to clients, including an understanding of the holistic scope of practice, recognizing when professional referrals are appropriate, and supporting client education related to health, fitness, and overall well-being. 
  • Conduct fitness assessments including preparticipation assessments and progression assessments. 
  • Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled appointment. 
  • Knowledge of fitness equipment, exercises, and proper technique to ensure safe and effective workouts. 
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of a wide range of fitness equipment, including pin loaded machines, free weights, functional training tools, and cardio equipment. 
  • Demonstrate proper setup, biomechanics, and safe usage for clients of varying fitness levels, while staying informed on new equipment features, maintenance standards, and best practices to maximize training effectiveness and injury prevention.
  • Upholding health and safety standards to ensure a safe training environment for all clients.
  • Understanding that errors in personal training can result in serious health consequences, including severe injury or death, requiring a high level of care, attention, and professional judgment.
  • Maintain communication with other Campus Recreational Services Team members regarding positive recognition, performance reviews, substitution, and schedule conflicts.
  • Communicate clear and concise information as needed to clients, students, emergency medical service personnel and police services.
     

Administrative

  • Independently design, implement, and evaluate personal training programs for clients based on the goals of clients.
  • Ability to work independently with clients, designing and guiding personalized programs to help them progress toward their health and fitness goals. 
  • Act in a professional manner with clients, students, and staff. 
  • Attend all monthly mandatory meetings and semester trainings. 
  • Perform opening/closing procedures for the fitness floor and cardio areas. 
  • Provide customer service by assisting clients via appropriate spotting, answering questions on exercise and techniques, as well as demonstrations of fitness equipment. 
  • Develop and present fitness and wellness related workshops.
  • Maintaining client confidentiality and protecting personal information in accordance with professional standards.
  • Continuing education through trainings and offered certification courses.
  • Practice peer education to develop student staff growth and success.
  • Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings for all areas necessary.
  • Required to pass study program provided by Nevada State University.
     

Marketing/Recruitment

  • Actively marketing and promoting to current facilities and programs hosted by Campus Recreation and Student Life.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications Required (within one semester of hire date).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in fitness training. 
  • Interest or field of study related to health and fitness. 
  • Have a current nationally recognized fitness certification in Personal Training. 


Work Hours:
This position will work 10-15 hours per week. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.

Hourly Rate:
$15.00 per hour.
