The Opportunity
As a dedicated Software Engineer – Contact Center Applications - Intermediate Level you will work with the Member Service Representative (MSR) Performance and Analytics team within USAA’s Contact Center Technologies department. This team utilizes agile methodologies to engineer and maintain platform capabilities which enable USAA to operate as a multi-channel contact center that is compliant, governed, and focused on the measurement and improvement of MSR behaviors and their interactions with USAA members.
Within defined guidelines and frameworks, you will provide support to the Association through delivering best in class technology solutions. You will engage in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, and responding to outages.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
- Write code to deliver features, and improvements on a regular basis.
- Investigate and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
- Continually improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
- Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- Follow the software development lifecycle.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What You Have:
- Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant education or experience or Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvenize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
- 2 years of software development experience specific to Java.
- 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
- Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
- Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
- Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
- Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools
What sets you apart:
- Experience with Java API / Batch Jobs (Spring Boot, Kafka, REST API), JavaScript UI Development (React)
- Prior experience with NiCE Performance Management or NiCE Quality Central
- Experience integrating and supporting vendor SaaS applications.
- Experience creating automated test cases with Selenium or Cypress
- Experience with SQL Data Storage/Modification (Microsoft SQL Server)
- Experience with Git Continuous Integration / Continuous Development (GitLab Pipelines)
- Experience operating in a SAFe Agile environment
- US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $77,120 - $147,390.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
