Project Information
The Tangkam battery energy storage system (BESS) project sits about 30km northwest of Toowoomba, Queensland. This new 100MW, 2 hour (200MWh) facility will connect to the grid through an existing Powerlink substation. Once operational, it will store surplus daytime energy for evening peak demand and support grid stability, replacing inertia traditionally provided by coal and gas power plants.
About the Opportunity
You will manage on-site electrical works and keep them on track for time, budget and quality. Supervise installations, coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, and conduct site inspections. You will also shape how the work gets built, from construction methods and staging to digital models that resolve clashes before construction starts. Working with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you will gain exposure across tendering, planning and construction. You will resolve technical issues, keep project documentation current and apply safe work practices on every task.
Key accountabilities
- Develop and review methods, drawings and sketches that turn designs into efficient, buildable sequences, including crane lifting plans and temporary works (ground conditions, lifting beams).
- Apply approved lifting plans and work methods on site, verifying temporary works against ground conditions and load requirements.
- Analyse procurement, delivery and site constraints, and track design packages across projects and sub-projects.
- Prepare proposals with accurate cost and resource estimates, set performance measures, define reporting and communication, and manage change to realise benefits.
- Identify and evaluate project and safety risks, develop mitigations, and implement safe work practices.
- Anticipate issues, apply critical and creative thinking, share lessons and process improvements, exercise delegations responsibly, uphold financial probity, and apply specialist construction knowledge (e.g. high-rise, tunnelling)
Required Skills and Competencies
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
- Demonstrated experience in the design and documentation of electrical systems for infrastructure, industrial, or utilities projects.
- Sound understanding of electrical principles, safety requirements, and applicable standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067, IEC standards).
- Proficiency in relevant design and CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, PowerCAD, Elecdes, Revit, or similar).
- Must be able to undertake a successful National Crime Check and Pre-employment Medical.
