We are seeking a Senior Telecomm Network Administrator who is not only technically strong, but highly resourceful. This role requires someone who can take ownership of complex problems, investigate beyond the obvious symptoms, leverage available tools and resources, and determine a path forward when a documented solution does not already exist.

Position Overview

As a Senior Telecomm Network Administrator, you will serve as a Level 3 escalation point for complex network, system, and infrastructure issues supporting emergency communication services (ECS) and carrier-grade networks.

This is not a runbook-only support position.

Successful candidates will be comfortable receiving an issue that may be incomplete, unfamiliar, or poorly defined and independently working through it. You will be expected to gather information, identify likely causes, use available documentation and diagnostic tools, test hypotheses, engage the right technical resources, and continue investigating until the problem is understood and resolved.

The position also supports the Go-Live deployment and scaling of wireless infrastructure, physical hardware, network environments, and virtualized cloud applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Own Complex Technical Problems: Take responsibility for escalated issues from initial investigation through resolution. Look beyond the reported symptom to identify underlying technical causes and dependencies.
• Perform Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex network, system, application, and hardware issues across interconnected environments. Develop and test troubleshooting hypotheses rather than relying solely on predefined procedures.
• Work Beyond the Runbook: Use existing documentation, knowledge bases, logs, monitoring tools, vendor resources, command-line tools, and internal expertise as starting points. When a documented solution does not exist, independently investigate and develop a technically sound path to resolution.
• Think Across the Environment: Evaluate how changes or failures in one component may affect routing, switching, firewalls, servers, applications, wireless infrastructure, cloud platforms, and connected systems.
• Drive Issues to Resolution: Maintain ownership of difficult problems, including issues requiring deeper research, vendor engagement, cross-team collaboration, configuration analysis, testing, or escalation.
• Tier 3 Escalation Support: Provide advanced support for issues that cannot be resolved through standard Level 1 or Level 2 troubleshooting within a 24/7/365 network operations environment.
• Infrastructure Deployment: Support Go-Live activities including deployment, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of wireless network infrastructure and physical hardware.
• Network Administration: Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and secure routers, switches, and firewalls supporting highly available carrier-grade environments.
• System & Cloud Management: Support virtualized server and application environments using Red Hat Linux, OpenShift, and related technologies.
• Root Cause Analysis: Identify not only how to restore service, but why an issue occurred and what actions may prevent recurrence.
• Improve Team Knowledge: Document newly discovered solutions, troubleshooting procedures, root causes, and lessons learned so future issues can be resolved more efficiently.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively with network engineers, deployment teams, vendors, carriers, application teams, and emergency service stakeholders to solve problems that cross technical boundaries.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of advanced network or systems administration experience, preferably within telecommunications, network operations, carrier, public safety, or other mission-critical environments.
• Advanced Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose complex technical problems where the cause or solution is not immediately known.
• Technical Resourcefulness: Ability to use documentation, logs, monitoring platforms, command-line tools, vendor resources, technical forums, lab testing, packet analysis, and other available resources to investigate unfamiliar issues.
• Critical Thinking: Ability to break large or ambiguous problems into smaller components, identify dependencies, form technical hypotheses, test assumptions, and adjust the troubleshooting approach based on new information.
• Ownership Mentality: Willingness to stay engaged with difficult issues rather than simply escalating them when the answer is not immediately apparent.
• Network Infrastructure: Deep understanding of routing, switching, network protocols, and firewall technologies.
• Juniper Environment: Strong experience supporting enterprise or carrier-grade Juniper networking environments is highly desirable.
• Operating Systems: Strong proficiency with Red Hat Linux system administration.
• Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical findings, troubleshooting steps, risks, and recommended actions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Juniper Certifications: JNCIS, JNCIP-ENT, JNCIP-SP, JNCIP-SEC, or higher-level Juniper certification.
• Cisco Background: Advanced Cisco experience or certifications will be considered, particularly for candidates who demonstrate the ability to quickly adapt their networking knowledge to Juniper environments.
• Cloud & Virtualization: Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift or comparable container and virtualization platforms.
• Troubleshooting Tools: Experience using packet capture, network monitoring, log analysis, diagnostic, and performance-analysis tools.
• Industry Experience: Experience supporting public safety networks, emergency communication services, wireless infrastructure, network operations centers, or major telecommunications carriers.
