Senior Technical Lead Manager (Engineering) Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Technical Lead Manager to own a new squad within the engineering organization in Hyderabad. This is a role that combines people and program leadership with sustained, hands-on technical contribution. The person in this role will report directly to the VP of Engineering, carry the scope of ownership and be expected to stay deeper in the code and architecture than a typical manager at this level — writing code, reviewing designs, and actively using AI-assisted development workflows alongside the team, not just directing them. What You'll Do Lead hands-on: Personally contribute to system design, code reviews, and complex implementation work in Java/Spring-based microservices — this is not a purely managerial role. Own squad delivery: Establish operational objectives, work plans, and delegation of assignments; manage the squad's roadmap, budget, and delivery commitments end-to-end. Drive technical strategy: Tackle ambiguous, cross-cutting problems using deep organizational and architectural knowledge; translate broader engineering strategy into concrete, executable plans for the squad. Champion AI-powered development: Bring hands-on fluency with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into daily engineering practice, and help the team adopt AI-assisted workflows to raise velocity and code quality. Manage and grow people: Hire, mentor, and manage engineers, providing coaching, feedback, and performance reviews; build a high-performing, engaged team. Own quality and reliability: Improve release quality through code, design, and automation review practices; own production stability, incident response, and performance/cost optimization for services in the squad. Partner cross-functionally: Work closely with product, other engineering pods, and enterprise stakeholders to finalize requirements, roadmaps, and integration plans; represent the squad in cross-group planning. Report and escalate: Provide the VP of Engineering with visibility into progress, risks, and resourcing needs; make judgment calls on unforeseen issues without waiting for direction. Must-Have Skills & Experience 14+ years of overall engineering experience, including a proven track record of designing and building scalable backend systems and distributed services in high-performance, production environments. Strong hands-on expertise in Java (Spring / Spring Boot) and microservices architecture — must be able to actively code, debug, and review design/code at a senior IC level, not only through delegation. Working knowledge of AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) and a demonstrated ability to integrate them into day-to-day engineering workflows. Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including a solid understanding of trade-offs at scale. Familiarity with containerization and infra-as-code — Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, Terraform or equivalent — and modern CI/CD practices. Proven people leadership — prior experience managing engineering teams (including other managers/leads), running hiring, mentoring, and performance review cycles. Track record owning budget and cross-group commitments for a department or program, with accountability for results that affect the broader function. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience partnering with product, sales/enterprise, and other engineering groups. Nice to Have Experience with data platforms such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, or Databricks. Exposure to Go or Python in addition to Java. Experience integrating third-party systems in support of enterprise sales/customer commitments. Background in supply chain, logistics, or B2B SaaS domains. Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
