Senior Specialist Legal Editor, Practical Law – Corporate (Global)

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Corporate and M&A lawyer with cross-border expertise to join the Practical Law Corporate and M&A team in the United States.

Practical Law is a leading online know-how service providing expert-created, practical maintained content to help legal professionals work smarter and advise with confidence. Practical Law is part of Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted providers of answers across law, tax, compliance, government and media. Practical Law editors are experienced legal professionals who sit at the intersection of law, technology, and the development of AI-driven legal solutions, such as CoCounsel.

Role Summary:

As a Senior Specialist Legal Editor in Practical Law, you will use your specialist legal knowledge of, and experience in, Corporate law and practice to create and maintain a wide range of content and to support the development of Thomson Reuters' AI-powered legal solutions. Working in a supportive team of highly experienced colleagues, you will deal with a breadth of interesting work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, write and maintain clear, current, and practical legal content aligned with market practice and customer needs, and business objectives.
  • Review and edit content written by others, whether by colleagues or external expert contributors.
  • Keep up to date with legal, practice, and market developments to ensure content remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Use your legal expertise to support the development of customer-focused Thomson Reuters AI-powered legal solutions.
  • Use your legal expertise and editorial skills to support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with lawyers and industry groups to ensure content reflects current market practice.
  • Use your specialist legal knowledge to assist the wider Thomson Reuters team, working with product management, sales, marketing, and technology functions where necessary.

Required Qualifications:

You're a fit for the role if you are a Juris Doctor with a current license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction and have: 

  • At least 8 years’ experience of working as a Corporate and M&A lawyer in a law firm or in-house. 
  • Extensive experience advising companies on Corporate law for cross-border matters, including on: 
    • M&A (drafting and negotiating merger agreements, stock/asset purchase agreements, financing and ancillary documents) involving one or more non-US entities; 
    • Company formation and governance, particularly of non-US subsidiaries; 
    • Joint ventures; and 
    • Investment matters. 
  • Strong writing skills, and a passion for writing about legal practice accurately, concisely, and in plain English. 
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively independently and in multi-jurisdictional teams. 
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to effectively utilize various tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity and accuracy. 
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work on diverse projects and tasks within the generative AI space as well as new and emerging technologies.  
  • A curious mindset, including about the increasing intersection of AI and legal practice, adaptable and open to change. 
  • Experience of using AI tools in legal work. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with differences in legal practice in non-US jurisdictions, particularly Latin America, is preferred.

Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $119,700 USD - $222,300 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
