About the role

Muon is seeking a Senior People Business Partner (aka HRBP) to drive people strategy and execution across our growing organization. This is a full-stack role: you will architect foundational people programs and effectively execute the end-to-end operational implementations required to bring those strategies to life.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will act as a trusted advisor to departmental leaders and managers. You will combine strategic systems-level thinking with exceptional warmth, approachable communication, and a genuine helpfulness that empowers employees and managers across the company. The position will report to the VP of People Operations. 

This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our San Jose, CA office three days per week. Could flex to accommodate remote for exceptional candidates who are located in the West Coast timezone and could travel to the Bay Area at least once a quarter. 

Responsibilities

• Strategic Architecture & Operational Execution
  • Architect and implement critical People Ops initiatives—from new manager training to talent review cycles—from initial design through final launch.
  • Continuously evaluate workflows to eliminate operational friction across a distributed workforce, building scalable solutions that enable growth and mitigate organizational risks.
• Manager Development & Coaching
  • Partner directly with directors and frontline managers to build manager capability, serving as a warm, grounded coach on leadership best practices.
  • Design and deliver structured manager development programs that equip leaders to manage high-performing teams, navigate complex performance management, and deliver constructive feedback.
  • Guide and upskill managers on policy execution through clear, accessible documentation and hands-on guidance.
• Autonomous Problem Solving & Employee Relations
  • Act with high autonomy to identify, diagnose, and resolve company culture vulnerabilities and complex personnel challenges before they impact the business.
  • Handle complex employee relations, performance discussions, and sensitive workforce issues with extreme discretion, empathy, and integrity.
  • Use analytical judgment and contextual reasoning to solve ambiguous problems where precedent may be limited.
• Culture & Operational Excellence
  • Serve as a visible anchor for Muon’s values, fostering a workplace culture anchored in continuous growth, feedback, warmth, and mutual respect.

Qualifications

• Experience: 6–10+ years of progressive HRBP or People Operations experience in fast-paced environments, with a proven track record of full-stack ownership (both strategic design and tactical implementation).
• Manager Enablement: Demonstrated success designing, facilitating, and driving manager development initiatives and coaching leadership cohorts.
• Autonomy & Drive: Proven ability to translate broad business goals into actionable project roadmaps and execute independently with minimal direction.
• Warmth & Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with a natural approachability, high emotional intelligence, warmth, and a customer-service mindset.
• Problem Solving & Discretion: Exceptional judgment when navigating ambiguous employee relations matters, maintaining absolute confidentiality and security around sensitive personnel data.
• Systems and Documentation: Hands-on experience architecting and managing modern HR systems (Rippling, Lattice) and building out accessible and clear documentation (Google Workspace, Confluence).

Salary

The salary range for this role is $173,000 - $191,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
