Job Summary
Join Equinix as a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Driving Operational Excellence Across Americas

As a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Americas Operations, you’ll leverage expertise in critical cooling infrastructure (Unitary/DX systems, air‑ and water‑cooled chillers, CRAHs, and more) to enhance reliability, efficiency, safety, and capacity across Equinix’s mission‑critical data centers.

In this role, you will:

• Provide operational expertise by reviewing and approving Methods of Procedure (MOPs), leading root cause investigations, supporting incident response, and advancing operational excellence through coaching and knowledge sharing
• Drive performance & efficiency across the portfolio by identifying operational and energy-saving opportunities, partnering with site teams in execution ensuring measurable results
• Develop and design construction projects that improve energy efficiency, maximize sellable capacity, and strengthen the long-term resiliency of critical infrastructure

Responsibilities

Operational Support & MOP Reviews (primary focus)

• Review and approve MOPs for critical live critical mechanical work, ensuring technical accuracy, proper sequencing, redundancy protection, & risk mitigation with clear abort/back-out provisions before execution

• Serve as a mechanical escalation point for operations, supporting real-time troubleshooting and decision-making during planned maintenance, non-routine work, and incident response events

• Act as the SME for critical cooling infrastructure, delivering technical expertise, operational guidance and support to data center operations teams.

Leadership & Operational Excellence

• Identify PUE & WUE optimization opportunities and guide Site teams on mechanical and controls improvements, leveraging Sequence of Operation (SOOs) knowledge and industry best practices
• Partner with regional and global stakeholders to develop, refine, and standardize operating procedures, engineering standards, and end-of-life asset management strategies

Project Analysis & SOW Development

• Develop business cases for energy efficiency and sellable capacity projects through engineering evaluations, lifecycle cost analysis and internal rate-of-return assessments
• Provide technical leadership for approved projects, partnering with site teams and project management to ensure adherence to Equinix standards from design review through construction, commissioning, and operational handover
• Partner with Site Operations and construction teams to validate system functionality, verify design intent and ensure operational readiness prior to system acceptance

Additional Technical Expertise

• Working knowledge of plumbing, fire protection systems as well as high level understanding of electrical systems, including system topologies and the ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in a critical 24/7 operational data center environment with emphasis on mechanical system operations
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, operations, and construction teams
• Experience developing and reviewing engineering documentation, including SOWs, design drawings, and technical reports
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years’ experience in mechanical/HVAC system design and project planning
• Active Professional Engineering license
• Familiarity with key efficiency metrics (PUE, WUE) and sustainability standards

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 118,000 - 176,000 USD / Annual

Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 112,000 - 162,000 CAD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
