About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to shape the architecture and technical direction of scalable software platforms at Equinix.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer with strong expertise in system design, software architecture, distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native development. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, and partner teams to solve complex problems and build reliable, scalable platform services.
Our backend ecosystem is primarily Java-based, but we are open to strong engineers from other technology backgrounds who bring the right depth in architecture and software engineering.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the architecture and system design of scalable, distributed platforms, microservices, APIs, and enterprise workflows.
- Own technical solutions end-to-end—from understanding complex problems and defining architecture to implementation and production.
- Design reusable platform frameworks and self-service capabilities for service onboarding, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Drive engineering excellence across scalability, reliability, security, observability, and performance.
- Champion API-first development, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and cloud-native engineering practices.
- Partner with Product, Architects, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Apply AI/GenAI and AI-assisted engineering across software design, development, testing, code reviews, troubleshooting, and operational insights.
- Explore emerging technologies through prototypes and PoCs and influence technology direction.
- Act as a technical multiplier, providing architectural guidance, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical decisions across teams.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex technical problems and influence on architecture or technical direction.
- Strong expertise in system design, software architecture, distributed systems, and microservices.
- Hands-on experience building scalable APIs, platforms, and cloud-based SaaS/PaaS products.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience with Java or another modern backend programming language.
- Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and production engineering.
- Hands-on experience applying AI/GenAI in software engineering—for example, design, development, testing, code review, troubleshooting, or operational insights.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work through complex and ambiguous problems and make pragmatic architectural trade-offs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
- Ability to learn and work across different technologies and toolsets.
