Über diese Senior Engineer – Configuration Management and Technical Publications Stelle bei GE Vernova
Job Description Summary
Configuration Management is a cross-functional business discipline responsible for establishing, maintaining, and controlling the approved product definition throughout the lifecycle. It ensures that parts, product structures, technical documentation, and the physical product remain aligned, traceable, and controlled. The goal is to ensure that released product information is accurate, consistent, and complete, and that the delivered product matches what was designed, manufactured, built, operated and maintained.
The discipline includes Parts Management, Products Management, Enterprise Change Management, Unit BOM creation and release, and technical documentation provided to customers. It establishes the structured product data foundation required to leverage AI-enabled tools.
Configuration Management and Technical Publications establishes the functional architecture for how wind turbine and SCADA products are decomposed, classified, and documented within the Technical Regulations and Standards framework. It maintains the functional information model needed to support consistent, traceable, and compliant customer-facing technical documentation throughout the wind turbine lifecycle.
As a Senior Engineer for Configuration Management and Technical Publications, you will define together with Systems Engineering the functional architecture and regulatory standards that govern how wind turbine products are decomposed into functions (Functional Breakdown Structure).
You will also define how to manage wind turbine and SCADA products technical documentation shared with customers, known as Customer Facing Documents or Technical Publications.
Your primary mandate is to define the vision and the functional requirements and propose standards-based approaches. In the absence of enterprise-wide standards, you will champion the adoption of industry standards (aligned with IEC 81346 and IEC 81355 standards and the Reference Designation System for Power Systems (RDS-PS)) to ensure consistency, traceability, and compliance.
You will ensure that product functions and customer-facing technical documentation are structured for operational execution in PLM by translating your functional architecture vision into clear, executable requirements and articulating their business value to secure buy-in from cross-functional stakeholders and the systems implementation team. Once the implementation team commits to your requirements in PLM, you will verify alignment with your functional architecture; however, delivery and timeline of PLM enhancements remain the implementation team's responsibility.
Your functional architecture vision establishes the framework for how all wind turbine technical documentation should be structured and classified. However, the implementation and maintenance of non-customer-facing documents (requirements, design memos, certification documents, specifications, drawings, design reviews, FMEAs, etc,) remain outside your direct responsibility and authority.
This role operates with high autonomy, guided by established policies and professional practices, requiring high levels of operational judgment and technical expertise. You will coordinate with technical writers (dotted-line) to ensure their work feeds the structured data model you define.
Your experience in technical documentation will define the Information Model to be used by technical writers.
You are pivotal in connecting system design to operation through intelligent, metadata-driven documentation that supports the entire product lifecycle and creates a foundation for traceability, compliance, and AI-enabled tools.
Job Description
Strategic Governance & Product Architecture:
- Product Definition Authority: Actively participate in the definition of new products to architect robust information structures, including product hierarchies, function management, RDS-PS implementation, and PBM (Product Breakdown Structure) connections.
- Governance Lead: Own the governance of product hierarchy, feature/option definitions, and the critical traceability between design requirements and final product configuration—filling current gaps in technical ownership.
- Functional Requirements Definition: Define the functional requirements and propose the functional architecture for wind and SCADA products utilizing the RDS taxonomy as the backbone (Systems, Subsystems, and Components). Work together with Systems Engineering to establish the Functional Breakdown Structure (FBS) that underpins product decomposition. Note: Systems Engineering owns the FBS implementation; you define the functional requirements that inform it.
- Cross-Domain Synchronization: Drive consistency across the organization by ensuring that RDS codes and product hierarchy are seamlessly mirrored between:
- PLM Environments: Product structure, FBS/FBS-like hierarchies,…
- Technical Documentation: Usage of RDS-PS in manuals, service guides, and digital technical publications,…
- undefined
- Documentation Strategy & Governance: Lead the development and maintenance of Information Models and Content Management Systems (CMS) to maximize content reuse and ensure alignment with product lifecycle and innovation milestones.
- Standards Implementation: Champion the deployment and integration of IEC 81346 and IEC 81355 standards into product documentation and functional classification processes. Develop and implement RDS-PS (Reference Designation System for Power Systems) labeling requirements and maintain the RDS-PS Asset Register when required in contract.
- Partner with design engineering, service, and product management teams to ensure technical documentation is integrated into the NPI (New Product Introduction) and Change Management processes.
- Technical Writer Coordination: Guide and coordinate technical writers (dotted-line reporting) to ensure their work feeds the structured data model you define. Set priorities and enforce best practices in technical documentation. Your experience in technical documentation will define the Information Model to be used by technical writers.
- Stakeholder Alignment & Buy-In: Translate your functional architecture vision into clear, executable requirements and articulate their business value to secure buy-in from cross-functional stakeholders (Product Management, Parts Management, Systems Engineering, Change Management) and the systems implementation team. Once the implementation team commits to your requirements, verify alignment with your functional architecture; however, delivery and timeline of system enhancements remain the implementation team's responsibility
- Process Improvement: Drive standardization and continuous improvement in delivery platforms. Use technical experience and analytical thinking to propose innovative solutions for complex documentation challenges.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Mechanical Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in Technical Communication, including leadership or management responsibilities.
- Solid experience in developing customer-facing technical publications within the power generation, wind turbine, or renewable energy sectors.
- Deep expertise in Asset Management and Reference Designation Systems for Power Systems (RDS-PS) according to IEC 81346.
- Proven experience in managing functional system breakdowns in PLM environments, with an expert-level ability to map product hierarchy, features, and options to RDS-PS structures.
- Demonstrated success in leading configuration management governance and ensuring traceability between engineering requirements and technical documentation deliverables.
- Proficiency in documentation tools and PLM/CMS environments (e.g., ARAS Innovator, Oxygen XML/DITA, MS Office).
- Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental standards (e.g., ANSI, OSHA, ISO 9001/14001).
Desired Characteristics
- Certification in Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100) or TEKOM professional certifications.
- Strong project management expertise (PMP or similar) with the ability to manage multiple priorities and geographically distributed teams.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical drawings, wiring schematics, and 3D models.
- Customer-centric mindset with a drive to enhance and improve user experience through high-quality documentation.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
