We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Aquatic Ecologist to join our Milton, Brisbane office in a permanent full-time basis.
Our newly fit-out office in Milton is equipped with a comprehensive range of aquatic sampling equipment and highly skilled taxonomists contributing to quality projects throughout QLD for government, industry and NGO clients. As part of a leading consultancy, you’ll deliver best-practice aquatic ecological surveys. We specialise in baseline aquatic fauna surveys, impact assessments, site-specific water and sediment quality guidelines, compliance monitoring, and environmental management across wetland, river, and estuarine ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Analyse complex aquatic ecology datasets using multivariate techniques and prepare clear, technically robust reports suitable for public review
- Lead aquatic ecology and water quality fieldwork in remote locations, including field planning, team coordination, and on-site safety and quality oversight
- Provide senior technical oversight and quality assurance for aquatic ecology assessments, monitoring programs and impact assessments, including review of methodologies, interpretation and deliverables
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and intermediate ecologists, and represent projects in client and regulator discussions
- Co-manage the maintenance, repair and storage of field gear
- Laboratory experience i.e. sorting, enumeration, identification, sample preparation etc.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Marine science, or related field
- 4+ years' post graduate experience as either an aquatic ecologist, biologist, or water quality specialist
- Current Drivers Licence (manual) is essential
- QLD Boat licence or ability to obtain one
- An enthusiastic and dedicated approach to working with and leading junior team members
- Demonstrated experience leading complex aquatic ecology projects, with strong knowledge of relevant Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation
- Australian Citizenship or rights to work in Australia
