SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

Jotun has achieved a leading position internationally in the steel protection coating market by developing high-performing premium Protective & Marine coatings. The product development for the South-East Asia Pacific region is done at our Regional R&D Centre in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

We are looking for a passionate and research-driven R&D Junior Chemist to join our Protective Coatings R&D team. In this role, you will help to develop new products, maintain existing products, exploring new raw materials and technologies and validate test methods used in the laboratory. You will have the opportunity to create, formulate, optimize, troubleshoot, and commercialize coating solutions from the first formulation concept through laboratory development, scale-up, plant trials, and successful market launch.

This position will be reporting to the Regional R&D Manager – Marine and Protective SEAP and will be based in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Job Responsibilities:

• Carry out research activities through careful planning, formulating, testing and evaluating formulations
• Make use of statistical tools and software to plan and analyze experiments
• Supporting operations in improvement studies and contributing to cross-regional collaboration
• Report results from research and development work both orally and in writing, presenting results, findings and insights in a clear and convincing way
• Search for, make use of and communicate knowledge found through literature, courses, practical experience and by learning from others
• Keep updated with new technologies, raw materials and trends in the coatings industry
• Gain knowledge and use of necessary safety equipment in a laboratory environment
• Attend to the daily order in the laboratory so that the workspace is tidy, safe, and pleasant

Job Requirements​:

• Degree in Chemistry, Material Sciences or related fields.
• 1-3 years’ work experience is welcome. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Background in or experience with statistics, design of experiments and data analysis is an advantage.
• Work experience in chemical research and development is an advantage.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation is an advantage.
• Proficiency in verbal and written English is required.
