About this role
We are looking for an Operational Data Analyst to join our Tech Operations team—a hands-on, high-ownership role sitting at the intersection of data engineering, commercial analysis, and strategic insight. You will own the reporting that tells our technology and product leadership how effort is being spent, how fast we are delivering, and whether what we build is working.
You will inherit a strong foundation—a working FTE allocation report, a data pipeline in active development, and a clear roadmap of what comes next. The challenge is to complete that pipeline, extend it into new reporting domains, and evolve the function from operational reporting toward genuine commercial insight.
This is not a role for someone who waits to be asked. The best candidate will identify the next question before leadership does. You will work closely with engineering leadership, product leadership, and finance, bringing rigour to how we plan, prioritise, and measure our work across the technology and product organisation.
These are some of the key components to the position:
- Own and maintain the FTE Allocation Report—our primary view of how Tech headcount is distributed across OKRs, business operations, and maintenance activity, ensuring accurate data models and leadership-ready reporting
- Build out engineering velocity reporting including flow metrics (lead time, cycle time, throughput), establish baseline measurements, and make delivery performance visible to engineering and product leadership
- Work alongside data engineers to bring the automated pipeline into production—replacing manual refresh processes with scheduled, monitored, production-grade solutions, owning SQL logic, column/grain definitions, and QA
- Connect engineering effort to business outcomes by linking FTE allocation and delivery performance to product metrics and commercial results, defining what ROI and commercial insight looks like incrementally
- Extend reporting scope from how we build to what we built and whether it works—shaping adoption, usage, and deprecation reporting that serves both product and technology leadership
- Turn complex, ambiguous data into clear, actionable insight for non-technical audiences, presenting findings and recommendations confidently to senior leadership including technology and product directors
- Design reporting methodology—defining what should be measured and why—and manage multiple workstreams with different stakeholders and time horizons simultaneously
- Ensure strong documentation practices, leaving systems and processes better explained than you found them
What will you bring to the team?
- Strong SQL proficiency beyond querying—comfortable writing dimensional tables, fact tables, complex joins, and specifying them precisely for engineers to build from
- Analytics engineering and orchestration experience, writing modular, templated SQL (using Jinja) to build, orchestrate, and schedule automated data pipelines
- Proficiency in Tableau with a proven track record of building self-service dashboards for senior stakeholders
- Familiarity with engineering data systems and underlying data models/raw schemas of platforms such as GitHub audit logs and Jira issue metadata
- Proven ability to turn complex, ambiguous data into clear, actionable insight for non-technical audiences
- Commercial curiosity—naturally connecting operational metrics to business questions and outcomes
- Experience designing reporting methodology, not just consuming it—able to define what should be measured and why
