What this role is all about

You'll work in a team of highly skilled professionals on a large-scale global platform spanning more than 20 data centers, with hundreds of Microsoft SQL Server instances hosting thousands of databases.

Our database platform provides the foundation on which our applications run, making the DBA role essential to the stability and performance of the entire platform. Your work will help keep this foundation reliable, efficient, and ready to support our products as they continue to grow and evolve.

What you'll do

  • Ensure our production databases remain stable, available, and performant.
  • Set up and continuously improve monitoring and alerting to identify potential issues before they become incidents.
  • Investigate and resolve database performance issues, deadlocks, replication problems, and other production incidents.
  • Collaborate with developers on designing and implementing reliable, scalable database solutions.
  • Propose, design, and implement replication solutions to support data availability and application requirements.
  • Plan and implement database migration strategies that minimise downtime and operational risk.
  • Support and perform database deployments, ensuring changes are introduced safely and efficiently.
  • Build and improve tools and automations that make database operations more reliable and efficient.
  • Participate in stress testing, analyse database behaviour under load, and help identify performance bottlenecks.

What makes you a strong fit

  • You bring mid- to senior-level Microsoft SQL Server experience, combining database administration with strong T-SQL development skills.
  • You have a solid understanding of relational database concepts, design, and data modelling.
  • You have a strong troubleshooting mindset and can independently investigate performance issues, deadlocks, replication problems, and unexpected database behaviour.
  • You can improve database performance through query tuning, indexing, and execution-plan analysis.
  • You understand how applications interact with databases, including connections, transactions, and common performance challenges.
  • You have a production-first mindset and understand the potential impact of database changes on live services.
  • You are proactive and look for potential issues before they develop into production incidents.
  • You are detail-oriented and precise when working on migrations, deployments, and configuration changes.
  • You take ownership of your work and follow tasks through from planning and implementation to validation.
  • You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with multiple developer and engineering teams.
  • You are comfortable using English as your day-to-day working and communication language.
  • You have a basic understanding of AI-assisted technologies and concepts, such as prompting, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and AI skills.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server replication.
