In this role you will lead the RWE strategy for prioritized brands in Italy, aligning evidence generation with brand objectives and the broader regional and global agenda to deliver timely, high-impact insights. Working at the intersection of medical, market access and commercial teams, you will identify evidence gaps, design RWE programs across the product lifecycle, and ensure excellence in execution.

Your work will translate data into value propositions that matter for patients and for business. How would you build an evidence plan that both advances science and unlocks access for transformative medicines?

Accountabilities:

Evidence Strategy and Business Impact

  • RWE Strategy Leadership: Lead the identification of RWE needs within the holistic evidence strategy for prioritized brands, helping to secure, maintain and expand patient access while advancing scientific knowledge.
  • Evidence Planning: Design and prioritize RWE programs across the product lifecycle, ensuring alignment with brand objectives and local, regional and global evidence priorities.
  • Market Access Support: Partner with Market Access to address pricing, reimbursement and access questions through relevant disease-area knowledge and robust research methods.
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Connect Medical, Market Access and Commercial perspectives to develop value evidence and value propositions that address external customer and internal stakeholder needs.

Study Design, Delivery and Portfolio Management

  • Study Portfolio Oversight: Assess feasibility and oversee Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) and AstraZeneca-sponsored observational studies, coordinating internal review and governance processes.
  • End-to-End Project Management: Lead program and project delivery, including timelines, budgets, resources, risks and dependencies, incorporating both Medical and Payer perspectives.
  • Scientific Documentation and Dissemination: Develop study concepts, protocols, case report forms and study reports, and lead dissemination through abstracts, posters, manuscripts and peer-reviewed publications.
  • ESR Operations and Safety: Coordinate study drug supply and ensure appropriate patient safety reporting for ESR projects.

Scientific, Data and Methodological Excellence

  • Methodological Expertise: Apply appropriate statistical, epidemiological, clinical, observational, health-economic, patient-reported and outcomes-research methods to study design, analysis and interpretation.
  • Data Access and Stewardship: Identify, access and curate relevant data sources; manage relationships with third-party data providers; and uphold information governance and data-protection requirements.
  • Evidence Quality: Ensure that research projects meet scientific, operational, quality and ethical standards and comply with the Principles of Medical Research and transparency requirements.

Governance, Compliance and Partnerships

  • Ethics and Transparency: Lead ethics submissions and interactions with authorities and registry holders, ensuring study registration and results disclosure in line with applicable policies.
  • Contracting and Partnerships: Negotiate and manage agreements with investigators, scientific consultants, service providers and other partners, and build productive external collaborations.
  • Compliance and Conduct: Ensure that all activities comply with legal, regulatory and internal requirements, including Italian legislation, company values, the Code of Conduct and relevant procedures.

Collaboration and Scientific Engagement

  • Global and Regional Collaboration: Partner with local, regional and global colleagues to align evidence priorities, coordinate delivery and share best practices.
  • Health Outcomes Engagement: Translate and communicate health-outcomes evidence to internal stakeholders, the scientific community and external customers, presenting findings in appropriate scientific forums.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Scientific degree in a relevant therapeutic area or scientific discipline.
  • Solid understanding of biomedical research, drug development and the clinical environment, including disease diagnosis and treatment, clinical and observational study design, epidemiology, data analysis and outcomes research.
  • Previous hands-on experience in clinical research and in the design, delivery or interpretation of evidence-generation studies.
  • Good knowledge of clinical research legislation, ethical requirements, data protection and applicable quality and transparency standards.
  • Knowledge of the Italian healthcare system and of the evidence needs of healthcare professionals, payers and decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated project leadership and project management capabilities, including planning, budget management, prioritization, risk management and delivery through cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex evidence into clear messages and present effectively to scientific and business audiences.
  • Collaborative, outcome-oriented mindset, with strong networking and stakeholder-management skills across internal and external partners.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • PhD in relevant therapeutic area or scientific discipline.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in Oncology, Medical Affairs, RWE, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Epidemiology or Market Access.
  • Experience working with real-world data sources, such as electronic health records, administrative claims, registries or other large healthcare databases.
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical approaches, including machine learning, deep learning, artificial neural networks and other AI-enabled methodologies, and their appropriate application to evidence generation.
  • Experience managing external research partners, investigators, vendors or data providers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development within the pharmaceutical and life-sciences environment.

We carefully consider all applications, including those from candidates eligible under Italian Protected Categories legislation (Art. 1 and Art. 18, L. 68/99).
