Job Description:

Job Title: Manager of Engineering – Stores Delivery Common Services (India)

Our Organization

The Stores Delivery Common Services function provides foundational engineering and delivery capabilities that enable secure, reliable, and scalable technology operations across TJX stores. The team supports store products including Point of Sale and Payments, Loss Prevention, Back Office, and Workforce Management through deployment engineering, release orchestration, performance engineering, observability, DevSecOps, labs, automation, and operational governance.

This role will lead the India team and help establish a scalable global delivery model. The existing team includes deployment engineers, release analysts, and Scrum Master capabilities. The leader will also build new capabilities in performance engineering, Splunk monitoring and observability, and DevSecOps. The India strategy emphasizes hiring leadership first, building local capability, integrating with global teams, and creating central shared services that can scale across store product areas.

What You Will Do

As the Manager of Engineering, you will be the senior leader for Stores Delivery Common Services in India. You will be accountable for people leadership, technical direction, capability development, delivery execution, and the maturity of engineering practices across deployment, release management, performance engineering, observability, and DevSecOps.

You will combine deep technical credibility with strong people leadership. You will assess the current state, define the target-state capability roadmap, recruit and develop specialist engineers, and partner across global product and engineering teams to deliver innovative, secure, resilient, and scalable solutions for TJX stores.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Stores Delivery Common Services team in India, including deployment engineers, release analysts, Scrum Master roles, performance engineers, observability engineers, and DevSecOps engineers.

  • Establish a high-performing, inclusive, and accountable team culture aligned with TJX values, leadership competencies, and global ways of working.

  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain engineers with the technical depth required to build new performance engineering, Splunk monitoring, observability, and DevSecOps capabilities.

  • Define and execute a multiyear capability roadmap that assesses the current state, identifies maturity gaps, prioritizes investment, and advances the team toward scalable engineering services.

  • Provide technical leadership for enterprise-scale software deployment and device-management capabilities using technologies such as Microsoft Configuration Manager/SCCM, SOTI, mobile device management platforms, and related automation tools.

  • Lead deployment and release capabilities supporting store products including Point of Sale and Payments, Loss Prevention, Back Office, and Workforce Management.

  • Strengthen package engineering, release planning, release readiness, deployment orchestration, post-deployment validation, rollback, and operational handoff practices.

  • Build a performance engineering capability covering workload modelling, load, stress, endurance, scalability, capacity, resilience, bottleneck analysis, and performance testing within delivery pipelines.

  • Guide the selection and effective use of performance-engineering tools such as NeoLoad, JMeter, k6, Gatling, BlazeMeter, or comparable enterprise platforms.

  • Build an observability strategy using Splunk and complementary monitoring tools to improve end-to-end visibility across applications, infrastructure, networks, devices, releases, and store environments.

  • Establish standards for telemetry, logging, metrics, dashboards, alerting, event correlation, service health, and proactive issue detection.

  • Improve operational outcomes by reducing alert noise, strengthening root-cause analysis, and using measurable indicators such as availability, release quality, mean time to detect, mean time to restore, deployment success, and performance against service objectives.

  • Provide technical leadership in DevSecOps, including continuous integration and continuous delivery, infrastructure and configuration automation, security controls, artifact management, automated testing, policy enforcement, and software supply-chain practices.

  • Embed performance, security, deployment validation, and operational-readiness checks into delivery pipelines.

  • Evaluate current processes, tools, and operating models; identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and scale solutions across regions and store product teams.

  • Partner with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, operations, product management, engineering, and support teams to ensure solutions meet TJX standards for security, resilience, supportability, and scale.

  • Provide technical oversight and constructive challenge during architecture, design, tooling, and platform decisions.

  • Balance near-term delivery commitments with long-term capability maturity, technical debt reduction, lifecycle management, and operational resilience.

  • Own delivery and operational metrics, communicate progress and risks clearly, and use evidence to drive continual improvement.

  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex deployment, release, performance, observability, and cross-team delivery issues.

  • Build strong working relationships across India, North America, Europe, Canada, and Australia, enabling one global team with clear accountability, effective knowledge transfer, and consistent engineering standards.

  • Develop future technical and people leaders through coaching, feedback, succession planning, stretch assignments, and meaningful career development.

  • Manage workforce plans, vendor relationships, budgets, capacity, risks, and priorities for the India function.

  • Demonstrate TJX leadership expectations by acting with integrity and building trust, driving for results, developing talent and effective teams, leading with vision and strategy, demonstrating humility and respect, taking thoughtful risks, showing resilience, thinking with agility, building networks, and listening deeply.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15-19 years of progressive technology experience, including substantial hands-on engineering experience and at least 5 years in people or engineering leadership roles.

  • Demonstrated success leading and developing multidisciplinary engineering or technology teams in a global, distributed enterprise.

  • Strong technical depth in at least three of the following areas: enterprise software deployment, release engineering, performance engineering, observability, DevSecOps, platform engineering, or store technology.

  • Demonstrated experience creating capability roadmaps, assessing organizational maturity, establishing engineering standards, and scaling new technical functions.

  • Experience recruiting and building engineering teams, including defining roles, evaluating technical talent, onboarding new hires, and developing career pathways.

  • Strong experience with enterprise software deployment, endpoint or device management, and automated rollout technologies such as Microsoft Configuration Manager/SCCM, SOTI, mobile device management platforms, or comparable tools.

  • Experience supporting distributed, business-critical technology environments with large endpoint populations and strict availability requirements.

  • Deep understanding of release management, package engineering, change controls, release readiness, deployment validation, rollback planning, and production support.

  • Hands-on knowledge of performance engineering concepts including workload modelling, load, stress, endurance, scalability, capacity, and bottleneck analysis.

  • Experience with one or more enterprise performance testing tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, k6, Gatling, BlazeMeter, or comparable platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of Splunk, including log ingestion, search, dashboards, alerts, field extraction, correlation, onboarding standards, and operational use cases.

  • Experience designing or leading observability practices using logs, metrics, traces, events, service health indicators, and actionable alerting.

  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps practices, continuous integration and continuous delivery, source control, artifact management, pipeline automation, automated testing, security scanning, secrets management, and policy controls.

  • Experience with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, JFrog, SonarQube, Fortify, Snyk, Checkmarx, Terraform, Ansible, or comparable enterprise platforms.

  • Working knowledge of cloud, hybrid, and on-premises architectures and their operational, security, networking, and scalability considerations.

  • Demonstrated ability to guide architecture and tooling decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and translate business outcomes into pragmatic technical roadmaps.

  • Experience operating in Agile delivery environments and partnering effectively with product managers, release analysts, Scrum Masters, engineers, architects, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operations teams.

  • Strong executive communication, influencing, decision-making, and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ability to work across cultures and time zones and to travel as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or Business Administration.

  • Experience leading technology capabilities for large-scale retail, branch, edge, distributed-site, or other high-volume transactional environments.

  • Experience supporting retail solutions such as Point of Sale, payments, Loss Prevention, Back Office, Workforce Management, or store infrastructure.

  • Experience establishing a new engineering capability or technology centre in India and integrating it into a global operating model.

  • Advanced experience with Splunk Enterprise, Splunk IT Service Intelligence, Splunk Observability Cloud, or complementary application and infrastructure monitoring platforms.

  • Experience defining service-level indicators, service-level objectives, error budgets, capacity models, resiliency tests, and operational scorecards.

  • Experience applying site reliability engineering practices to improve availability, scalability, incident response, and operational learning.

  • Experience with test automation, deployment automation, configuration management, infrastructure as code, and automated post-deployment validation.

  • Experience managing technical vendors, service providers, budgets, workforce plans, and enterprise tooling investments.

  • Familiarity with SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, ITIL, or related delivery and service-management frameworks.

  • Relevant certifications in Splunk, DevOps, cloud platforms, performance engineering, Agile leadership, or information security.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster innovation while maintaining disciplined governance, security, and operational accountability.
